I have a Gold lap dragon whos horns are turning green? This dragons horns have the green stuff all over them. Has anyone else had this problem and is there anything I can do to try and clean it off? Thanks 🙂
Here is a pic of her horns, I tried alittle bit of water on a paper towel but it did not come off.
I tried the baking soda and water mix and it took alot of it off but alot of them are tiny little spots and I cannot get them off but most of all the larger green spots came off and the horns are some what shiney now 🙂
I included a updated picture of her since I cleaned her horns .
After I cleaned her horns with some baking soda and water.

Have you tried to wipe it off with a kleenex or paper towel? I usually spiff my horns up with a very slightly damp paper towel…since we aren’t supposed to use any kind of chemical on them, as they’re only gold plated, and not solid.
November 8, 2009 at 11:04 pm #790717I see you beat me to it… I found this: http://www.windstoneeditions.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6247&p=165923&hilit=tarnish#p165923 and this http://www.windstoneeditions.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11188&p=288161&hilit=green+horns#p288161
November 8, 2009 at 11:21 pm #790718Uploaded a picture of her horns. It’s not the best picture but you can see all the green stuff all over them, There are tons of little spots of green and a couple larger spots of green.
November 8, 2009 at 11:43 pm #790719Baking soda, water, and a Q tip apparently work. Is every little spot on the horns green? From the pics, it seems like the green is confined to the crevices. Its like that on my OW, but its hard to tell from the pics.

All the rough looking speckle stuff is the green tarnish, It’s all over her horns. There are lots of little spots of green and then there is a large area of green at the bottom area of one horn and there is medium size area of green towards the top of the horn all the rest is just lots and lots of little green spots.
November 9, 2009 at 12:40 am #790721*blink blink* That’s rather curious! I’ve heard of silver tarnishing…and bronze…but the 24k gold paint?? It is reacting with something in the air?
Hmm….
November 9, 2009 at 12:53 am #790722green is the copper turns when it degrades….or patinas…… weird.
I thought the horns were pewter (which doesnt do that…) and gold? (also doesnt do that)….what could be turning green?
November 9, 2009 at 12:56 am #790723Dunno, but I just tried the baking soda and water on my OW and it worked like a charm.
November 9, 2009 at 6:13 pm #790724I can’t tell.. it’s definitely green, and not just dark tarnish??
Does anyone else have a piece with specifically green tarnish/spotting? I’ve never seen it get green!Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

Does anyone else have a piece with specifically green tarnish/spotting? I’ve never seen it get green! My OW has some very tiny spots in its crevices. Nothing like that lap, though, if all those spots are green. The ones on the OW are tiny, but def green. I didnt even notice them. Think it may have to do with the tropical cllime?
November 9, 2009 at 9:43 pm #790726My BG Lap Dragon has a little bit of green on one of her horns and they are actually rather dull in appearance. She was like that when I purchased her from a dealer. I’ve never been able the make her horns gleam like my other guys and I’ve never been able remove the green ‘tarnish’.
November 9, 2009 at 11:33 pm #790727Perhaps whomever the “gold plating” was purchased from….used copper as a filler and cost cutter, against windstone’s wishes?
If I’m not mistaken, metallic paints are actually pigmented with fine bits of actual metal…and though I know we’re talking about gold plating, and I’m sure there’s a difference…..the concept would hold true that it could happen.
but not many metals tarnish green. That is a reaction of copper metal.
November 9, 2009 at 11:41 pm #790728ah..forgive me….brass will as well…but I think brass is a combination of copper and…iron? tin? dunno. it’s a reaction to moisture from what I’m reading. Are the dragons with tarnishing horns coming from more humid areas?
Either way it’s a weird puzzle. Thankfully tarnish can be removed from either of those metals with exactly what Ski has described.
