What are some of the movies that scared the crap out of you when you were a kid? Pick them based on the context of how you felt at the time of viewing, not if you would find the movie scary today. For instance, when I was a kid, the movie “Fire in the Sky” gave me nightmares because I was reading a lot about Alien encounters and thought I could be next! 😮 But if I was to watch it today, I’d probably be like, man, was I gullible. But it resulted in many sleepless nights at the time.

      OK, I’ll start:

      Fire in the Sky
Predator (Late night, way too young)
Return of the Living Dead (the movie’s hilarious but the purple basement monster made me want to pee myself)

          Hhhmm……
The Incredible/Invincible Dr. Phibes ? Vincent Price
Quatermass and the Pit (thanks Bill 😉 )
and there was one more where a family bought a house in New England with pentagrams, Mom ended up beating the devil for her child.
          The Excorcist
          😕

lol-I wasn’t a little kid, probably 15-16 at the time, but Event Horizon freaked me out 😮 I haven’t seen it since, but I’m sure I could watch it. I get creeped out by religious horror movies, but can watch as much gore as they can cram into a two hour period with no problem-lol

          Night of the Lepus

Late at night, very young – I don’t even remember the movie, just that it scared me. But it scared my oldest brother, too 😀

            ET, believe it or not.

I was very young when it came out (was born in 1980), we went and saw it in theaters and it scared me to death. I really couldn’t tell you why, and to this day I still don’t like it. But I watched Ghostbusters just fine.

I was scared of Darth Vader back then too, so Star Wars was out. But now I can answer most Star Wars trivia, I own them all.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Hey, I was in kindergarten and a sensitive widdle soul…) 😳

And when it hit theaters, Jurassic Park. I remained wary of genetically engineered raptors for a while after that. 😈

IT-oh my gosh-I still shudder to even THINK about it, and I have not watched it since. All I remember, which are the parts that scared me the most) is that scary clown with the horrible teeth, who changes into a spider, and he entices little kids and kills them, and then the blood that bubbles out of the sink. :puke: It scared the living daylights outta me, and I will NEVER watch it again (or any other scary movie, for that matter!)

I haven’t watched many scary movies; I still don’t like them. For a while I sat through one every week to try to, I don’t know, “toughen up” to them, but it didn’t work. I can’t remember my first horror movie; I know The Sixth Sense bugged me for a couple days (though I still think that’s the best twist to a movie ending I’ve ever seen) and The Ring scared me the first time I saw it. The only gory movie I actually liked was 28 Days Later.

LOL! My son’s best friend is scared to death of clowns and he keeps begging me to watch IT with him…I told him Pennywise would be too much for him! I love that clown! *Sick and demented*

My all time scared the crud out of me film has got to be “The Thing”…I can handle blood and guts, but that jumping out of my skin feeling really takes the cake. I honestly can watch just about anything creepy or gory all by myself at midnight, but not that movie! :shout:

Aliens. When I was about four years old I snuck out of bed and sat in the hallway to spy on the TV while my parents were watching it… after a while I was too scared of the aliens to go back to bed by myself in the dark and too afraid of getting punished for being out of bed to ask for help. So I sat there like a terrified brick and watched the whole movie. To this day, if I have to get out of bed in the middle of the night I think of those horrible things as I walk through the dark house. Hell for me is probably filled with these things. *checks under desk for face-clingers* :nea:

The Shining – never made it past the scene where Jack is running through the trees with the ax.

Kind of embarrassed but Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – I had a recurring nightmare afterwards where the Bumble would chase me through the house and then I would walk down the stairs of the back deck and he would be hiding beneath it and reach out through the open treads and grab my leg……………………I would wake up screaming. But I still watched it every year!

Gremlins…gizmo is cute, but the gremlins scared the crap out of me.

                  Keeper of the Fledgings

Heck, I watched it a few months ago for the first time and it disturbed me! The psychological horror stuff like that still gives me nightmares. I’m ok with stuff like Jurassic park, Devil’s Advocate or the Underworld series, but things like the chainsaw stories and haunted houses, not for me. (says the gal who watches Supernatural… go figure!)

I remember closing my eyes when we went to see Jungle Book at the theaters when it came out when the snake does the eye thing to Mowgli. No nightmares or anything, just scared at the time.

On another note, who cringed watching District 9?
