My daughter will be 10 later this month, and she is just starting to show the first physical signs of developing. 😮 :shout: (that’s SOOO young! I was 13!)
I am wondering if anyone here has any good suggestions for books and/or websites for her, to help explain what is going on and will be happening soon. Books especially might be good, it would be easier for me to use a book as a jumping off spot for ‘the talks’. I never had any from my parents, and I’m not sure where to start!Whatever I have, I have in French… I would go to the bookstore/library and peruse. I haven’t researched websites; books should be enough.
My daughter is 10 and a half, and just like me at that age, she’s developing! I think some of it was discussed between girls at school, but she seems reluctant to talk to us about it. We put out the info for her and we’re available, but maybe the maturity isn’t quite there yet.

The times my mom brought things up like needing a bra or feminine products, I was ABSOLUTELY MORTIFIED. I think that’s pretty normal for a lot of girls, so I guess all I can say for you is to discuss such things privately with just you and her around. You’ll know better than anyone else if you’re giving her too much information to handle at once. I think it’s good to just mention/discuss smaller aspects of how she’s changing briefly now and again, and she may bring up questions of her own. That way rather than one big possibly overwhelming talk, you two have a dialogue that she can open back up at her own pace.
What I wish my mom had done, was to get me a little box of supplies of my very own to keep private, until I needed them for the first time. That would have made it a little easier. I remember thinking that becoming a woman was a raw deal!

Judy Blume books were my friends in the tween years. Mom and I never talked about any of that stuff. But then her generation was like that… :shrug:

This is a great book: “Deal with It! A Whole New Approach to Your Body, Brain, and Life as a gURL.” We bought this for Miri when she was 10 or 11 and it was perfect.
Unfortunately I can’t send you our old copy because last year I decided to put it up for sale in our used-books section and it was snapped up a couple of days later.
