So this is another new ebay policy that they are failing to inform sellers of. Spread the word, this takes effect end of August!
Unless you choose to opt out (by default, all sellers are opted in!) ebay will be starting a new policy where all uploaded photographs will be added to a ‘catalogue’ that will be free for anyone to use.
I will be opting out AND adding a large copyright notice to all my pictures from here on in! These people are in the know well enough to be aware of copyright laws, but are being sneaky about trying to get around it!
This livejournal has step by step instructions on how to opt out. I followed the instructions, but apparently it can ‘take awhile’ for the changes to be processed. http://naamah-darling.livejournal.com/411410.html

August 1, 2009 at 9:41 pm #778067Thanks for that heads-up. I’ve had enough of selling things there already, but at this rate, pretty soon I’ll feel guilty about buying, too. 👿
August 1, 2009 at 10:05 pm #778068Ugh. I’ve always been a buyer on ebay and only sold 2 things, but I’m probably going to have to list Windstones on there sooner or later (later if I can keep sales to this forum). I’m already so discouraged by how much of the final selling price they take, and now this? Ugh. 😡 Ebay is pretty rotten to its sellers.

August 1, 2009 at 10:52 pm #778070Where on ebay does it state this?
August 1, 2009 at 11:03 pm #778071from what I read I understand it to mean the catalog that is sent out to ebay members in the mail that features stuff for sale..
and honestly it sounded like a good thing.. this is from the ebay
“Product pages are rolling out to more buyers, so list with product details to make sure your listings are included. Also, eBay will start selecting sellers’ photos for inclusion in the eBay product catalog on September 1. If your photo is chosen, your user ID and a link to your profile page will appear on the product page. If you’d prefer not to have your pictures selected, opt out no later than August 31.”
and here is the page I got it from..
http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200907.shtml#2009-07-27072554after actually reading it all.. I don’t think I’m gonna worry about it.. ebay does seem to be trying to make things better.. but like normal it is a slow process
August 2, 2009 at 3:02 am #778072Did you see the part where it said that auctions will be Required to have a Buy it now price of at least 10% higher? I don’t think I like that, if I am reading that right…

if you’re doing a BIN on your auction the BIN has to be at least 10% higher.. you can’t do a BIN for less than your starting price.. and it does make sense.. you don’t have to do a BIN..

Simple workaround. Don’t upload photos to eBay. Host them in your own space or use a site to host that has a policy not to re-use or sell your photos.
Facebook re-uses your photos but people keep uploading to them by the millions… 😕
August 3, 2009 at 6:14 am #778076Uh…I just went to list something and it says they will soon be removing the insurance option. WTF?
August 3, 2009 at 6:40 am #778077Thanks for the heads-up to these changes. My latest auctions were as usual; I’ll watch for changes on the next item I list.

The only photos I put online are things that would not interest most, nor are they of any great quality that is why i put them on there still.
