have you been able to do any just-for-yourself art since you have been at the orgon location? sketch practicing/painting/ what ever?
i’ve been trying to fill up a sketchbook, revise my personal character designs..and i just got another sketchbook i want to attempt doing only real life sketches in…i know i need that practice….but aliens are so much more tempting.July 26, 2009 at 6:35 am #777017KoishiiKitty wrote:have you been able to do any just-for-yourself art since you have been at the orgon location? sketch practicing/painting/ what ever?

I draw from life every chance I get. I draw crumpled napkins and people and dogs and dead birds and bugs.
The only thing that I draw totally for myself are comic pages, but time to do that is incredibly rare these days…yes I’m whining again.
I’ve put some sketches of dead stuff on my live journal page.

I find new sketchbooks to be so intimidating!*megapoke* i think you forgot to add me on lj, nothing is coming up π
*snort rofl* all the artists i’ve been around online compain now and then about not having enough time to do the art they REALLY want(among other art related things, art block), so i think it is pretty normal and healthy.mhm! yeah, they are! New sketchbooks, with all that white paper. I always have this issue of comparing the first new sketches of a fresh book to the last finished one and instantly thinking,” man, the old one looks so much nicer, is this really progress? because it kinda looks like i’m going backwards some how……”

I have whole periods of my life where my drawings were absolute crap. I threw most of them away when we moved. It was like I was trying to be someone I wasn’t …really made me feel embarrassed to look at those drawings!
Drawing can be a deep pothole of bs if you aren’t careful.
I get around the intense new sketch book fear by using binders that I add paper to. I keep the drawings in there that I want to think about, the ones that are in the direction I want to go. Sort of good luck charms. I have a few bound sketch books that are JAMMED with drawings, every page, upside down drawings on the same page on top of other drawings, on both sides of the pages.. that is because I never want to start new ones! Too scary.
We are all crazy.
So what are you trying to achieve? I try to focus on what exactly I am trying to improve when I draw, for a while it was simply line quality, then composing shadows to give volume , then and emphasis on perspective… all of this while trying to gather as much info on real anatomy as I can. ( “real” as opposed to the stuff you find in anatomy books. In other words, non idealized anatomy)
I love to talk about drawing . I could go on for pages.
(I sent you a “friend request” or whatever you call it, so you should be able to see my lj page.)July 26, 2009 at 8:24 pm #777020mhm! yeah, i have a few old sketchbooks i pulled out to look at recently and had a gag reaction to them.”what was i THINKING when i drew that!!!”
got the request! I already have you added, you may have to add me back for me to see your journal entries though. sent you a message through lj.
I need to make a new lj post for the current sketches.lets see, with mine, the current sketchbook is focused on character and species revisions. trying to flesh out some of my alien species that really need some design over hauling.
Especialy the humans, I have human characters i would like to draw more…but i don’t have them defined enough, so i have been working on developing them more so that thier personalities come out in their over all look…instead of looking like copies of one another. so lots of repetitive human sketching.( i have to beat myself into doing it some times because i more intimidated by humans then creature/animals)I also am working on sketching out new critters and ideas as they come to my mine. sketching the ideas while they are fresh. instead of just ignoring them and forgetting them..
and then i have that second book i want to attempt real life drawings. working on sketching animals and objects i see so that hopefully i can learn more and apply real structure and anatomy to my alien designs.Lately i have been hooked on using an ink pen for all my sketching. just ball point pen. I kind of like the challenge of not getting to erase, but also learning out to sketch lightly and darken lines. I should try a felt pen next.

It is private, but I can add you if I have your email address.
I only add people that understand that this gallery is “Life ” drawings; meaning studies from a real thing (and often-as-not drawings of a dead thing), and anatomy stuff. – not for the squeamish!July 27, 2009 at 2:18 pm #777025If our brat cats catch and bring home ermine this winter (like last winter) shall I ship ’em to you to add to your freezer weasel collection? π …and how ’bout some sage hen and grouse? It’ll be ‘chicken’ season here soon and we got lots roaming the back 40. I missed photo-ing the moose, though. Couldn’t find the camera quick enough π

twindragonsmum 8)OOHH!! Dead stuff!
Tempting offer, thank you, but probably not worth the effort! The laws concerning transporting dead things are complicated.July 27, 2009 at 10:44 pm #777027how about pictures.. I know it’s not the same.. but still no laws against sending those that I know of..
and speaking of those Melody.. I have a whole bunch of pictures from the Fort Worth Zoo if you’re interested.. I emailed you some a while back.. but I can always just send you a disk if you’re interested..
