Maybe this is really a rookie question, but what can you tell me about the Secret Keeper–Why is it called that, what is the “secret”, etc. etc? Why does it hold a gemstone? If these are questions you have already answered, possibly some forum members could help out with the answers. Thanks! 😀

Yes, there is a story, sort of… I had posted a picture of this yet-unnamed large “paw Up” dragon on my Elfwood gallery page. At the time, that was the only online gallery I had, I think.. anyway in the description for the picture I asked for name suggestions because I am really bad at coming up with names for things. It was informal, but it kinda turned into a contest, so we decided among the hundreds of names that were suggested, and we chose the name “Secret Keeper”. ( “Tyrrlin” a forum member here, was one of the two people who suggested that name on Elfwood) I chose the name because it seemed that this dragon was holding something in her paw, and she has a knowing expression. I just randomly stuck a jewel in the paw of first one we made because she didn’t have any place else to put it, and it seemed like something should represent your secrets.
July 8, 2009 at 3:37 am #774259ok, another question–what is “Elfwood”?

here is a link to my page on elfwood if you would like to see it. http://melodypena.elfwood.com/
Elfwood is my favorite fantasy art gallery site. They are careful about content, and everyone on there seems so kind and helpful to each other.
Here is a link to the “Paw up dragon” image.

I see she was sculpted in 2004, I had thought this had been around for longer, but I guess it only came out a little before I started watching the Ebay ads. BTW, when did you first put out a completed SK sculpture at Windstone? And I assume it was an Ebay piece?July 8, 2009 at 11:28 pm #774265I think the first Secret Keepers were contest prizes, weren’t they?
July 9, 2009 at 3:37 pm #774266Yes, they were contest prizes that stores who sold Windstones could win. This was (if I remember correctly) also a way for Windstone to test market these pieces. They realized they were too big and heavy to sell to stores, and if one broke, it really made the effort not worth it, so they were working on a hollow core SK (and I think still are) but in the meantime, auctioned a few off on ebay. I think the first few went for $1500-$2400. 😮 So many people wanted one, but couldn’t afford ebay prices, that Melody painted a small batch in White and sold them through the store. They, like their peacock counterparts, sold like curlies-like hotcakes!
July 9, 2009 at 3:58 pm #774267Actually the White ones were auctioned on ebay not sold in the Windstone store.
The most expensive Secret Keeper sold to date was Red Gold #5 for $3150. The least expensive (that wasn’t a BIN) was Black Emerald Peacock #6 for $910.
July 16, 2009 at 4:52 pm #774268I actually got LUCKY here I got the first one for $1125 the 2nd lowest at that time of the 10
I wish the EmPea ones where not the ones that the stores got!! They can NEVER be made again even though it is now a production color
FOILS my plan for an eventual SK in every production color!!July 17, 2009 at 8:06 am #774269I’m still holding out hope for those hollow SKs…prob the only way I can afford one.. 😉
