With the new Amathyest color all I can think about is getting a display case and ONLY putting in the Amathyst, Gold and Emerald Dragons in it for a Mardi Gras display
Does anyone else think that would be a GREAT display??
I wonder if New Orleans could sell all sorts of them??WOW!! I also just got a thoght for a Patriotic display with the Ruby, Peacock and Whites one too!!
I know my brain goes off in wierd places sometimes. I just think both of those would look AWESOME together
After all they are made in the USA!!!May 31, 2009 at 3:39 am #498327May 31, 2009 at 4:02 am #766619LOL! I was thinking there was gonna be an actual dragon painted in that theme…Now that is an idea. I’d like to get a single display case for all my curlies, or one for all the fledgies, but I try to keep them in color groups, so I don’t know how long that would last with me. Sounds cool though. 8)
May 31, 2009 at 4:13 am #766620I have ALWAYS though about painting a Dragon in Mardi Gras Colors but as I have said I’m not the best painter here and still don’t understand how to post pics so even if I had one I don’t think I could post it here until I learn more about how to post them
I also can’t afford to get all the paint supplies I would need to do PYO’s at homeI’ve got to admit I have a vision though!!
May 31, 2009 at 4:47 am #766621That’s a cute idea! Me, I’ve always wanted to build a “color bar” of lap dragons — red-orange-yellow-green-blue-purple — so I guess you could display them during Pride Week as a festive grouping? ::laughs:: The line is quite a few colors short of that goal, however, so if it ever gets done I’ll probably be pretty old by then!
The other “set” that I really am working on is a set of four Elemental Lap Dragons: I have Gold and Silver, and plan to use Rainbow for Titanium, so if only Melody would release a Copper dragon… ::eager:: The gold and silver laps I own have cute collars with their elemental symbol/info from the periodic table on them, and I’ve got the collars all ready for the remaining two… I just need money and a copper color! 🙂
I’m not sure Peacock would work for the patriotic set, though; it seems equally purple and green, to me. You might have to wait till some more intensely blue dragons come along. (I’ve got a standing squeak for Ocean Blue as a production color…)

I’m so out of touch; I didn’t even know that Mardi Gras had specific colors to represent the occasion.
May 31, 2009 at 1:58 pm #766623I already have mini Mardi Gras beads made for my PYO Keeper (when I can get my hands on one). It’s going to be called… “Throw Me Somethin” 😆 My family is BIG into Mardi Gras and actually ride in Isis. I will be making plenty of Mardi Gras dragons. 😀
Here’s a little Mardi Gras fun I did a couple of years ago… Mardi Gras Dragon
Yes, I actually have mini Mardi Gras beads made for him… I am such as dork. 😈
May 31, 2009 at 2:02 pm #766624Here’s the history on the colors.
The traditional colors of Mardi Gras are purple (symbolic of justice), green (symbolic of faith) and gold (symbolic of power). The accepted story behind the original selection of these colors originates from 1872 when the Grand Duke Alexis Romanoff of Russia visited New Orleans. It is said that the Grand Duke came to the city in pursuit of an actress named Lydia Thompson. During his stay, he was given the honor of selecting the official Mardi Gras colors by the Krewe of Rex…thus, did these colors also become the colors of the House of Romanoff. The 1892 Rex Parade theme (“Symbolism of Colors”) first gave meaning to the representation of the official Mardi Gras colors. Interestingly, the colors of Mardi Gras influenced the choice of school colors for the Lousiana arch-rival colleges, Louisiana State University and Tulane University. Whe LSU was deciding on its colors, the stores in New Orleans had stocked-up on fabrics of purple, green and gold for the upcoming Mardi Gras Season. LSU, opting for purple and gold, bought a large quantity of the available cloth. Tulane purchased much of the only remaining color…green (Tulane’s colors are green and white).
May 31, 2009 at 4:16 pm #766625Geeez…I already have tons of green, gold and purple paints. Now, just for the darn dragon to put ’em on! 🙂 I know a couple people who I’d like to do one for. (besides myself!) 😉
