Hoofer lovers! This one’s for you!

I know someone asked me about this guy before, but I was waiting on stones to put in her mane first. So, here she is! There are a total of 24 stones – 21 genuine rubies and 3 ‘garnet’ colored cubic zirconias (they look the same color as the rubies I have, and I couldn’t get the rubies small enough to fit in the really tiny holes, so cz it was!). I have pointed the three cz out below, for those who may not be able to tell the difference in person. 🙂 She is a very nice dapple grey, accomplished through layers of pastels, ground to a powder, applied and sealed between each layer. Time consuming, but I think the results are worth it. This is my first windstone pyo using this method, and my first unicorn.

I will take offers on him through to Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov.27 at 6pm EST), unless someone presents me with an offer that I can’t refuse. I always double box and will ship to any location in the world. I am also open to doing more if someone would like a uni, dapple grey or otherwise. I could probably finish another one unicorn by the holidays, if requested soon enough and could ship directly to the person if needed. Blank pyo unicorns are still available in the store. 🙂

Final Offer: $200 + shipping SOLD

    Dapples!

    Dapples in the sun:

The two stones in the forelock over the left eye are cz. The three over the right eye are rubies.

The left most stone in the lowest set of three is the 3rd Cz. The rest are rubies.

All the stones in the tail are rubies. The beading in the mane and tail are silver.

As always, feel free to ask any questions!

Very beautiful! If I had the money….
In the meantime, can you share with me the sizes of the stones for the PYO unicorn? Also, how do you ground acrylics to a powder? I have never heard of that technique.

It’s not acrylics you use. You use pastels 🙂 I’ve done it several times. Takes so much time!

Sure. The rubies are between 1mm – 1.5 mm. The three cz I was told are 1mm, but I think they are smaller than that. They are smaller than the rubies.

Basically, you dab/rub on some powder with a brush (think like a stipling brush – I think that’s what you call them… short and, in my preference, not too soft and not too stiff, but kinda stiff. Like a if you were stenciling something). Careful not to blow off what you added or smudge it, you spray sealant. Let the sealant dry for at least 20 minutes. Repeat.

You can’t spray if there is too much moisture in the air or if the temperature is too cold. Same with sealing a pyo. You also work light colored layers to dark colored layers, since it is hard, or, depending on the color, impossible to cover up a dark color with a light color just by pastels (impossible if you have a black layer and you want to put white over it with just pastels).

It’s fun, but like Kujacker said, can be very time consuming, especially if you are doing something complicated, like dapples or fun markings. The first few layers may not show up at first either, which can throw you off, but never fear! It does work. It just takes time to build up the color!

I hope this helps! I got my pointers and help from LadyBrooklyn actually as I was working on this one. She uses pastels on windstones, breyer horses, and other horsey sculptures.

I love that unicorn so much ! I can’t get over how well she’s done. Dapple grey is my favorite color for a horse/unicorn. I’d buy her in a second, but I totally already spent my Windstone quota this month 🙄 😆 . Good luck selling her.

Thank you! I will love to try to do a dapple grey with this technique! 😀 I hope mine will turn out as perfect as yours!
