I know a number of you are going to think I’m ANAL and I really am about a number of things.
There have been many discussions in regards to an Emperor being Female

emperorc.1225, from O.Fr. empereor (acc.), from L. imperiatorem (nom. imperiator) “commander, emperor,” from stem of imperare “to command” (see empire). Originally a title conferred by vote of the Roman army on a successful general, later by the Senate on Julius and Augustus Caesar and adopted by their successors except Tiberius and Claudius. In the Middle Ages, applied to rulers of China, Japan, etc.; only non-historical European application in Eng. was of the Holy Roman Emperors (who in Ger. documents are called kaiser), from 1297, until in 1804 Napoleon took the title “Emperor of the French.” Empress is attested from 1154; Queen Victoria in 1876 became “Empress of India.”

I KNOW this makes me looks VERY anal and as stated above I am about many things.
As an Empress I had to dress in DRAG as a Female for over a decade to get that title and many years later and TRUST me the money I spent on all that would have been MUCH better spent on my bills if I had choosen the MALE side of things and run for Emperor instead. I could have also gone after my original dream of collecting EVERY Windstone Dragon ever made in EVERY color it was made in for production.I also can’t believe that a discussion in regards to the gender of an EMPEROR dragon cold turn into defending the sex of a dragon.
Sorry but I had to vnt since this has been bugging me for a VERY long timeYou can all start throwing tomatoes now
September 6, 2008 at 6:41 pm #496603September 6, 2008 at 6:47 pm #731774um, Emperor moths and butterflys have both boys and girls, same with emperor grape plants. male and female. and need we even have to say there are 2 sexes with geese and one lays an egg? Emperor is a title, but some emperors obviously have male and female. So… that being the case, an Emperor Dragon could have both males and females. 😉 😆
September 6, 2008 at 6:52 pm #731775and regardless of all that, if I feel that my dragon is female, I will be calling her such. She’s mine, I own her, I’ll say what I like about her. It’s really not a big deal DM. Don’t be mad at me. I’ll give you a backround story to help.
In the land of my dragons, there was traditionally a male ruler dragon whom all dragons call Emperor. The title was passed from father to son by birthright. First born son gets the throne. In present days, the law was changed, so that a female could inherit the throne, but they forgot to change the title of “Emperor” to “Emperess”. So, while she is still called the “Emperor of all dragons” she is still a she. It is simply a title.
=D

September 6, 2008 at 7:04 pm #731777We can agree to disagree I guess.
I’m not trying to get myself exiled here but the SK is female and the GREATEST dragon in the world and I LOVE mine VERY much it was just something that has bugged me ever since it started and I had to say my piece and now I got to.
I still do not think it’s right but I had to put my feelings down on record.
I have also been having a HORRIBLE time lately trying to keep my house and car. On top of that last Saturday I lost my mom’s mothers ring and that has broken my heart more then I can tell you, I have tears in my eyes as I’m typing this, so I just needed to vent and express my feelings. At one time that we could do that without much fuss.September 6, 2008 at 7:17 pm #731778It’s not that we think you’re being anal (maybe a little obsessive), it’s just that you were ignoring the context. >_>; We weren’t saying that “Emperor” does not imply “male”, or that the Emperor sculpt is not officially deemed male by Melody. We’re all well aware of those facts.
We were saying that Leigha could call her dragon whatever she wanted, since she owns it. If she wants to consider it a girl, since it’s been repainted pink, so be it. Especially since it has no actual genitalia that you can see…so there wouldn’t be any “looking down to check” in this case…
We weren’t discussing the gender of the Emperor sculpt in general. We were talking about what Leigha wanted to consider HERS.
At any rate, agreeing to disagree sounds like a good plan to me. >.>
September 6, 2008 at 7:18 pm #731779Agreed to disagree 🙂 sorry DM
September 6, 2008 at 9:08 pm #731780I interpreted the original argument as kitsunelady stated, as an individual choosing to call their dragon whatever they wanted regardless of Melody’s title.

However, I got curious while skimming this article, which stated there were 8 Japanese “female emperors”.
I found this article about Chinese Emperor Wu Zetian:
http://www.travelchinaguide.com/intro/history/tang/emperor_wuzetian.htm
They refer to her as Empress when she was married to the Emperor, but once he died (and her sons stepped down), she reigned as “Emperor” of China in 690.
And this article states that:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/10/why_wont_japan_have_an_empress.html
“In English, the word Empress doesn’t make a semantic distinction between the wife of an Emperor and a woman who herself rules as Emperor/Empress.” However, in Japanese, they do: “a male Emperor is called Tenno. The wife of an Emperor is Kougou. A female Emperor is Jotei.” And then the article continues to refer to a possible future reigning Japanese women as a “Female Emperor” and not as Empress.
Not trying to fight with you DM or even want this argument to keep going, but I do find this a bit of interesting information.
I hope things start to look up for you and the ring isn’t permanently lost 🙁
September 6, 2008 at 9:19 pm #731781I think Leigha’s dragon just got a name too…Jotei!

September 6, 2008 at 9:31 pm #731782Thanks but I’m not expecting to find the ring and I’m heart broken over it. I was having strange feelings that I was going to lose it one day and I should have just left it at home and not worn it at all
September 7, 2008 at 1:15 am #731783I’m sorry… I know I need to just keep my mouth shut sometimes cause I always seem to make arguments worse… but
ARE WE STILL SQUABBLING OVER THIS?!? ………seriously?
Personally an Emperor can be whatever you want if you ask me… it’s a sculpture. I very detailed and intricate sculpture of a regal and beautiful dragon. History states many things, but the beauty of each collection here is the love and enjoyment the collector themselves have for these sculptures. I’m sure that’s all Melody cares about, that her work is loved and respected. Deciding your personal *statue* a boy or a girl is not going to change the dragon or what it represents to the owner or to it’s creator. Let them do whatever they want and leave them alone…
……..REALLY!?!?!
…… no really……I’m serious!? I’m not trying to cause a conflict here, but just let this subject rest already. It’s just a really silly thing to obsess like this over. I’m not trying to anger you DM, but it sounds like you have a lot more important things to stress about right now. I’m sorry to hear, It sounds like you’ve been haveing a awful run of bad luck lately.

I agree, just didn’t want to say anything. My two youngs I consider different genders… my gold is a male and my peacock is a female. And it’s because I say so and for no other reason. 🙂 It has nothing to do with the original intent of the sculptor, it’s personal choice.
September 7, 2008 at 5:04 am #731785Very well said, dragOnfeathers! I totally agree that as each one of us look at our dragon sculptures, we see whatever it is we want to see in them. Personally, most of them take my breath away in just sheer beauty and that so much of their impressiveness for me lies in their dignity, calm, and inner strength without aggressiveness: no teeth and claws out, no blowing fire and smoke. “Males” that wear beautiful jewels and stunning paint,”females” with inner strength and dignity. For me, they project the image of power without aggression, a feeling that says, don’t even let the thought cross your mind to mess with me because I have teeth and claws and can use them if I have to, but I don’t have to prove that to anyone and I’d just as soon not, ok? In essence, well-mannered polite dragons who know the social rules. That applies to both “genders” however they are projected. I see the OW’s as old and wise and full of stories and just waiting for some young dragons to ask them to tell them about the “old days” and give them some good advice from their store of accumulated knowledge and wisdom and to pass on the history of dragondom. They know better than to judge, they just watch, knowing that everything will happen in its own time, that the young will learn in their own way, and that everything will be all right eventually, they did it their way, and now it’s time for the next generation to do it in their way. They also appreciate all the differences they see, the varieties of dragons that come and go, the colors and sculpts and paints, they listen to the squabbles and gossip and complaints, but don’t judge any of it unless they are asked to and then they are fair and wise. I see the oriental suns as the playful ones with the chew toys who don’t know when to stop, like puppies or small children at bedtime begging for just one more game, just one more, I promise! and you know they don’t mean it and it will still mean another major tussle and 1/2 hour before bedtime, but they are so cute and hard to resist and so charming, you give in anyway, each time saying, next time…!
Anyway, those are my projections on some of my sculpts, I’m sure they are not the same for everyone. I don’t name mine, I know others do. I think it’s more important to be easy with each other about how we are with the dragons we own than to set rules about how others have to be with the dragons they own.
DM, it seems like it would have been hard for you to come on the forum and talk about investing a decade of time and money into earning a title that was important to you at the time that perhaps would have been less understood here, as well as your grief over losing your irreplacable ring, and find the debate/defense continuing. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I do have an idea of it, my safe was broken into and my late husband’s watches that I was saving for his son were stolen. Not the same, but a small inkling. Your mother’s mother ring can be recreated if you were to choose to do that with the stones, etc. It wouldn’t be the same, but the idea would still be there. If you choose not to do that, you already know your mother is in your heart whether the ring is with you or not, and the love is still there as well.
I’m so sorry and *big hugs*September 7, 2008 at 6:43 am #731786Kyrin wrote:I think Leigha’s dragon just got a name too…Jotei!

AGREED! ^^ I’m going to write that on the felt pad as soon as I get the courage to bring her back out of the curio cabinet!
