She just came in from laying in the yard(one of her favorite pass times) and half of her head is swollen. It is probably the size of a baseball, just not as tall. It doesn’t hurt her and doesn’t seem to have a center, plus it’s in pretty deep fur. COuld a bee even get to her skin there? It’s on the right hand side and top of her head, down to her ear and about an inch or so above her eye.

What do you think, bee? Ant? We are in NH, so atleast it’s probably nothing poisonus. She is breathing fine, acting fine….

i would think it could be variety of bugs from Ants to spiders and every thing in between . I would say keep an eye on her if she acts funny or it gets bigger see a vet

Thats what I would think, too but there is no telling w/o seeing a vet.

I agree with Necron: monitor her for a couple of days. If her behavior seems off, consider taking her to see a vet.

She is fine so far. I’m guessing it was a bee. I’ll continue to keep an eye on her tho!!

I’ve seen reactions like that. It could be a bee, a wasp, or even an ant. Sometimes the swelling goes down after about eight hours, but sometimes it continues to spread or even morphs into hives on the body. If she throws up or seems listless, call your vet right away. Likewise if the reaction is spreading. Also, don’t be surprised if gravity pulls the swelling down towards the throat–it often does–but keep an eye on how she’s breathing. Usually it won’t interfere with the breathing, but you never know. If she’s a short-faced dog like a pug or a boxer, it doesn’t take much to hinder airflow. Good luck!
