OMG, I am in another world, on another PLANET, and I think I’m in love! π π
We drove down to Frankfort Kentucky from NJ last night–we left at midnight, and it’s a 12 hour drive–but as whupped as I am, I am totally enthralled with being in an area that is just SO horse oriented; I think I have finally found Nirvana. (and having been up for about 36 hours with no sleep, the goofy-stick has hit me hard. π )
We’re down here scoping out property to buy with an eye on the hubby’s retirement in a couple of years.
We got here around 1 this afternoon, hooked up with a realtor that I’ve been corresponding with and we’ve already seen at least one 14 acre piece that would suit me to the bone.
Stay tuned for the next episode of “Lost in Kentucky–DON’T SEND HELP–” π π
I’m off to a nice hot shower, the hopes that I can shake the major case of Road Fever that has me buzzing like a live wire, and BED! W00T! 8)July 26, 2008 at 11:31 pm #496288July 26, 2008 at 11:45 pm #725240Lol! We live in Berea, about an hour south off I-75. It’s a really nice town, if you get near here pm me, I’ll invite you over for lunch! π π There’s alot of property for sale around here, it’d be a good place for you if you like craft towns. π π

July 28, 2008 at 2:48 am #725246I’ve had some sleep—finally collapsed around 9 last night and slept until 8 this morning. WHEW! π
We went to the Horse Park of Kentucky, and it’s *some* facility. NJ has a lot of nerve saying it’s a horse friendly state after seeing what’s around here.
We are looking in the Lawrenceburg/Lexington/Frankfort area. Tomorrow we’re going to check out a piece of property that is part of an old working cattle/crops farm. We already know it’s cleared, since it’s currently planted in corn and soy beans. And the realtor says it’s “flat”…Flat in KY vs flat in NJ are 2 VERY different things from what I can see. π π
So I’m guessing this means there are no ravines. Out of the 4-5 pieces we saw yesterday, only 2 had potential. Hey, that’s why we’re here. π
Where is Berea in relation to Frankfort? My map is down in the car….. π And thanks for the invite, PC! I dunno that we’ll be able to take you up on it this time, tho….this is kind of the Whirlwind tour. π But if all goes well, we’ll be back down here soon. Not soon enough for me, but soon. If it was up to me, I’d be emailing the family and telling them we aren’t coming back north. It’s so pretty down here. We also went over to Keeneland, since it was kind of on the way back from the HP to the hotel. Between this and all the incredible farms, I am ready to relocate like yesterday… πJuly 28, 2008 at 12:45 pm #725247Well, we do our grocery shopping in Lexington, so we’re around 40 minutes south on I-75 from Lexington. Berea is just a straight shot south :). The horse park is awesome, I love the pair of black Percherons they have there, that’s my favorite horse breed. I used to have all year passes so I could go whenever I wanted, although I couldnt afford one this year. HA! Flat! yeah…flat in ky means something totally different from the areas further north…all of ky has a “rolling” landscape. I love living here, it’s beautiful. π
July 29, 2008 at 12:08 am #725248I miss Kentucky…sniff, sniff. It’s my childhood home. I lived in both Louisville and Lexington and had family in both places. I’d love to move back to Lexington some day. If you guys wanna see flat, come to Florida. π
July 30, 2008 at 2:31 am #725249Yeah, I’ve seen FL flat. Seen AR flat, too. Gives me the willies, all that tabletop flat open areas. Just thinking of the tornadoes that go with flat….brrrrrrr!
The piece we finally settled on is 12 acres, gently rolling, by all accounts! π and already cleared. It’s growing corn right now. Plenty of room to place the house, barns, fences, etc and still have grazing room. We’ll be starting the purchase process once we get back NJ. No matter what, the move won’t be for at least 2 or 3 years until after George retires. Gods, I wish it were SOONER…..like NOW
I’ll keep y’all posted as we go. I really can’t wait to make the change—I *HATE* NJ, and the greedy buggers charge a 2% exit penalty when you sell your house and leave the state. Now, that takes true big brass……well, you know. π πΏ The Republic of NJ….next thing you know, our license plate numbers will be tattooed on our rumps. Then we can moon the officials when they ask for ID. πJuly 30, 2008 at 11:18 am #725250*snort* ROFL…..sorry…but I had a wonderful mental image with that one! π π
July 30, 2008 at 6:56 pm #725251That’s NJ….tax you for leaving instead of giving you incentives to stay. π πΏ Congrats on finding a property you like, tas! π
