I was looking at this on eBay and noticed the seller said it was a signed piece. I sent him/her a message saying that it was not considered a signed piece and that a signed piece was one where Melody wrote her name on the felt pad on the bottom. The seller has only sold 4 items on ebay so I thought maybe he/she didn’t know.
This is his/her reply:
Dear darjeb,
I had no idea, regardless, it is has Pena handwritten on it, and I’d consider that a signature. You’re welcome to not bid rather than tell me the same thing for each of my auctions…

I sent her a polite note. This is probably just the case where someone mistakes the cast-in signature as a hand signed item.
Regardless, it is much less than retail so is still a good deal for this piece. 🙂

It’s amazing how often that happens. One wonders if they imagine Melody carries around a fine chisel and hammer, just in case anyone asks for an autograph.
I also love the assumption that it was painted by Melody herself, simply because it carries a signature.
But then I sell Windstone sculptures in my store, and I can’t count the number of people who, when I say “Hand painted”, assume I have a factory in the back room, paint them up myself, and can therefore do one that’s got a slightly different color scheme.
I don’t think people know that things are painted by other people. They believe that Melody Pena has enough time on her hands to paint each piece that walks out the door. (I ran into one the other day on the bus. Nice guy, I invited him to join the forums, but, I don’t think he did.) Just naive, I guess.

That’s a rather snotty reply to you, darjeb. It certainly doesn’t encourage me to bid….imagine what they would say if it arrived damaged? 🙄
It would be nice if Melody had the time to shed some light on the jubject with the seller herself. Maybe then the seller would back off and take the time to understand. But we all know how busy she is. 😉
Maybe she thinks the gold “signature” on the hang tag is real??

I like how someone asked where the signature was… (Maybe it was you, Darjeb?). Obviously some people know this person is full of crap.
I just could hold it in anymore and had to contact the seller and put my 2 cents in it too.
Here is the message I sent and if they don’t understand what a signature is after that then they are daft! Or just want to misrepresent the item on purpose.:“Dear ilovefeds,
Hi I was looking at your description and this item is not signed by Melody Pena. You might not realise this but what you see as a signature to you is actualy the copyright logo with the name beside and the year. Every pieces have this on them for copyright protection purposes.
A signature of Melody Pena would look like this one on the felt pad. Here is an example:

You can see it is hand signed by Melody Pena on the felt and this one is from a WINDSTONE EDITIONS BROWN AND BLUE MALE GRIFFIN “test paint” they call it since they were testing new colors on those pieces.
I hope this clarifies what a signature on Windstone would look like because the word signature in your auction misrepresents the item in question.
