http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmJuly 21, 2008 at 3:50 pm #724158I didn’t even realize they started production on the movie 😮 (I haven’t read a Wizard Magazine in years!)! I hope the movie lives up the graphic novel, which I think I’m going to dig up and reread again 😀

Ditto. It’s been a while since I’ve read it!

March 7, 2009 at 4:48 am #724161I will SOOOOOOO be seeing this! Yes, I have read the graphic novel (which I do have to purchase, since I borrowed a coworkers and made the time to read it on my last vacation). I’ll probably see it in a week though (I’m on a trip this weekend, or maybe I’ll just pop in and see a matinee before I work some day next week, if it shows early enough).
My only concern is that some things were left out and if some of the performance is flat, since there is supposed to be that whole, 5 minutes from doomsday aspect on the decrepit world of Alan’s version of 1985 (I know Alan Moore wants nothing to do with it and even is refusing any profit from it, which makes me ponder), but we’ll see. I’m sure I will still enjoy it, even if I will nit pick. I nit picked the ‘Mists of Avalon’ movie too, but then again, they also changed scenes, which pissed me off (mostly in the second half of the movie), and Harry Potter movies for leaving some things out that could have been covered enough in another 5 minutes of footage (I still enjoy them though ;P). Too many theater major friends and myself a theater student in what little free time I had (or made) at college… what can I say!
Being a complete dork, I do hope they kept in Bubastis. *teehee* 😳 I want a Bubastis!

I don’t really know whether Alan Moore’s opinion of the movie is a good indicator or not. He generally hates movie adaptations of his books regardless. He has been burnt pretty bad. (I’m looking at you, “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) He will not endorse ANY adaptation anymore. I don’t think he even watches them. I thought “V for Vendetta” was a pretty good adaptation, and Moore did not endorse that.
Rottentomatoes.com has it at a 63 percent fresh. My husband and I are planning on seeing it in IMAX. Probably tomorrow night.
March 7, 2009 at 3:17 pm #724163Oh, we’re going, probably next Friday. I have a weakness for Watchmen, as it’s the one comic that got me into English/American comic books. Before that, it was French only.
I love Bubastis too…
As for the other adaptations of Moore’s stuff, though the League movie and comics differed, I enjoyed both. Mind you, I’d seen the movie first, so I didn’t have any expections. I find it less disappointing than when you read something first and see the movie(s) who are way off. V was a very good movie; I got the graphic novel afterwards and didn’t like it as much: it was too dated, I think.

I agree with you. When a movie comes out based on a book, I don’t read the book until I’ve seen the movie. Unfortunately, I am a voracious reader, so many times I’ve already read the book. I’ve read all of Moore’s stuff, so I always end up comparing the movie to the source material.
March 7, 2009 at 7:08 pm #724165Maybe I’ll let you ladies see it first and tell me your opinions on it. I’m really nervous because it’s from the director of 300, which I didn’t like (I know, I know, don’t throw stuff at me; I just found that movie all style and no substance). There’s a lot of wonderful and clever imagery in Watchmen, but there actually is a story and dialogue, and I hope that doesn’t get lost for one liners and lots of CGI. And if they overdue the slowmo, I might kill myself 😆
But complaining over 😳 I wasn’t a big fan of V for Vendetta, not the comic nor the movie. Not sure entirely why. And I felt what was majorly lacking in the movie, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, was the fact there wasn’t time for character development. In League and Top Ten and Watchmen, Moore likes having a large cast, but unlike movies which are limited in time, the comics take the time to let the reader know each character and form a relationship with them. By the time I got finished reading all 12 issues of Watchmen, the characters’ fates mattered to me. Hell, I even cared about the crazy survivor trying to get home on his raft of dead people, and that was a comic within a comic! After watching the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie, I didn’t care about any of the characters or their fates (I didn’t read the comic until after).

Amen to that.
From the previews I saw (and I tried to see as little as possible since I didn’t want to ruin it), I’m thinking everything will be there, inasmuch as it can be, of course.

March 9, 2009 at 7:47 pm #724168We, hubby (himself) and I will def. be seeing it but will have to drive an hour or more to see it. The graphic novel is great! I hope the movie lives up to expectations.

March 10, 2009 at 3:07 am #724169We will see it (probably a month or so from now when my father comes to visit). Don’t spoil it for us by discussing in too much detail, okays? 😀
