Okay, I’ve been playing Kya: Dark Lineage for a couple weeks now. Much frustration insued let me tell you.
Anyway, after jumping through all the hoops, or should I say slides, air tunnels, and various other OSHA nightmares, I finally saved my brother, and kicked my father’s evil butt and tossed him into the lava, saving the Nativ’s world and the next from his villany.
So I attempt to go home…oops…brother and I are not home…but there is no Kya-2, so that’s it. *sigh*
But hey, I got through the whole thing…I’m proud of myself. Now to get through Jak & Daxter, my next challenge.

July 16, 2008 at 12:03 am #722820Hey Kyrin, have you tried Okami? =D
July 16, 2008 at 12:12 am #722821Congratulations, Kyrin! How long did it take you? Jak & Daxter is fun too! It took only thirteen hours of my life! And they made two more of those, but they get darker as they progress. Still fun, but the innocence is gone. I second kitsunelady’s recommendation on Okami. Try to get it on the PS2 instead of the Wii if you can. It should only be about twenty bucks by now. Great music, story, gameplay, crying moments, sigh. Sly Cooper is good too! Good luck with Jak & Daxter!
July 16, 2008 at 12:48 am #722822You are funny…me with a Wii…yeah right. All I have is a PS2.
I will keep it in mind. I’m trying the games that have similar platforms to Kya, since I really liked how Kya played out.
As for how long it took me, several weeks, playing about an hour or so every other day. I’ve probably been playing seriously for the last 2 weeks, meaning I put in about an hour a day.
I can only repeat a challenge so many times in a day, so if I kept failing repeatedly, I would quit and try again in a day or so. So I’ve done the run to the top of the volcano about 100 times, and the drop through the pipes was probably repeated more than that.

Don’t get too far ahead of me!! Mine won’t be here for a few more days.
I made a rule for myself, I have to beat a game before I can get a new one, so when I beat Kya, I ordered Jak.

July 16, 2008 at 1:04 am #722825I rented Jak and Daxter when it come out… and I beat it during the rental period… but I don’t remember much about it! π―
I play way too many video games. Or, at least, I use to. Not since my second job went under in November. However, I can’t really recommend Ookami. Yes, the game play was okay, but the ending… totally not worth it at all. Oh, and my biggest tiff about the game? The wolf is genderless yet everyone wants to think it’s female. Read the instruction booklets please π
July 16, 2008 at 3:20 am #722826*scratches her head* I always figured Ammy was a girl since Amaterasu from Japanese mythology was a female. >.>; I almost never read the booklets. o.o; But if she wasn’t a girl, why did all the ink gods say “mother to us all” when addressing her? All the Japanese fanart I’ve found of her in a human form make her a girl, too. c.c; I’m not sure why it would be a big tiff for you if people want to think Amaterasu is a she…o.o;
But then, I also really enjoyed the gameplay and the ending, so… = Actually, I thought the whole story was great! =) I loved how they pulled in characters and things from Japanese mythology. The end was an obvious setup for a sequel, of course, which I have no doubt they intended to make at the time…sadly, we’ll never get it since Clover Studios is gone. >.> It makes me want to cry that I won’t have my sequel. e.e I adore that game like no other. Ah well, to each his own. But honestly, Kujacker, you’re the first person I’ve ever heard say anything negative about it. XD Even my friend Jeff, who hates EVERYTHING, loved that game.
Anyhow, if you get easily frustrated, Kyrin…if you do get Okami, I wouldn’t try to get the beads. XD Some of the challenges will make you want to pull your hair out. 9.9; They’re only worthwhile if you have any interest in playing the game more than once, since they make you invincible and up your weapons’ power by x10 when you equip them in your next go-round.
July 16, 2008 at 3:37 am #722827I never did get all the stray beads, but I have fun playing Okami anyway.
I thought Amaterasu was the sun goddess in Japanese mythos too, so I’m also confused as to why Kujacker doesn’t like them referring to Ammy as a ‘she’?
July 16, 2008 at 8:08 am #722828If you read the booklet, it states that the name was taken from the Japanese goddess, but that the wolf itself is not female, it is genderless. Read the booklet; “Though deliberately written to be a genderless character in the game…” page 34.
Not to mention no one calls it female ever… they call it a sun -god-, not goddess, and all other characters call it a “he” or “mister” or just “wolf”. And then it’s past self was male… according to Okikurmi.
And that “mother” stuff is whatever to me. I’ve seen too many things from Japan where males are referred to as “mother” or “ma’am” and like-wise for females. And who knows, they might have added that in the english version. Wouldn’t be the first time…
It’s only a “tiff” because… well… if it’s suppose to be an it… and I call it an it, most the time people (on the internet) actually get angry at me for it, or try to justify why they think it’s female. That’s why it’s a tiff. Also when I type it as “Ookami” and people try to tell me it’s “okami”… thanks but I took Japanese, and it’s a long “O”.
And again, I said the game play was good, but the ending, to me, wasn’t worth it. Like the new Zelda game >___> Loved the game play and story, but the ending left me looking for more.
I feel like I’m stealing Kyrin’s thread because again, I have to explain myself. Blah.
July 16, 2008 at 1:10 pm #722829I think such things should be taken with a grain of salt. Gods and goddesses are a personal thing and one can attribute gender if they wish. After all it is a game, and a fairly lighthearted one at that. In the game I play with dragons, all playable dragons are genderless, and yet we all attribute male/female to our characters and the creators of the game don’t mind. It’s a natural thing to do.
I can’t think of a bad thing to say about Okami. Some of the puzzles are hard but in all it was a great game!! π

ROFL! I barely get time to play video games much at all anymore, so I wouldnt worry too much! I do still love them though, and was thrilled when I finally beat FFXII, WOot!
July 16, 2008 at 4:39 pm #722831July 16, 2008 at 5:44 pm #722832I don’t know what this Kya game is, is there something I could look at it (my fiancee has a PS2 and is always looking for new games).
For the Final Fantasy series, I think FFVI was a remake of FFIII or FFII, I think it’s III but I could be mistaken. So it might not be worth it π
Right now the fiancee is obsessed with his copy of FF tactics. I haven’t tried it because he won’t let me near it… π
