I’m not trying to be mean, selfish, or pitiful I promise! But I do need to know…what determines if someone gets a gift from the whole forum? It’s just that I had always felt hurt when some got special attention for the same thing that I had done/experienced, but I didn’t get nearly as much attention. Is it determined by the amount of time spent on the forum, or the closeness of relationships? I REALLY hope that no one takes this personally because that isn’t my intention, but I have always felt comfortable being honest with you all, and I am hoping I wount get yelled at. 😳 I love you all so much, and I am not expecting anything, nor do I want anything because it would just make me feel guilty, but I just have these feelings.

This may sound a tad blunt, but it seems to me the bigger a deal someone makes out of their misfortune or joyous occasion, the more sympathy they get for it. (Of course. You can’t smypathize with something you don’t know about.)
I don’t remember anyone getting a Windstone for having a baby, though. πŸ˜•

Oh, I never said Windstone..I don’t think anyone got one for that.

Even though I am being honest, I am still afraid I will get my head bitten off for asking this type of question. 😳 Thanks for not biting it off yet! 😳

Well, I admit that even though I’m happy for all the people who got gifts, and for all the generosity shown on this forum, we should watch out that we don’t just gift people who complain about what a rough time they’re having. πŸ˜•

I think it’s a nice thing to do, but then sometimes people feel left out, and I worry about that sometimes. I love it when others get gifts! It’s always a nice pick-me-up when life is crappy. It lets them know that others are thinking of them, and that they aren’t alone. I view gifts as even being PM’s that are full of sweet things to say and encouraging words. Gifts can come in all kinds of forms! πŸ˜‰

It’s pretty random for the most part, as far as I can tell.

Whatever seems to be the biggest deal at the time.

I’ve thought this more than once, and it’s a good caution to have….because otherwise you can get people who are…users? for a lack of a better word…people who whine and moan just to get things, who already use the “poor me” card for attention, but then find that if they do it louder..they get gifts. It’s a sad but true fact in life that some people act that way. πŸ™„

I think the gift giving bit is random, which is fine by me…I havent gotten anything either, though I’ve had several ups and downs, it’s always good to remember that people are imperfect…and well, sometimes overlook a new post on what’s going on in one person’s life because of things going on in their own…or just the sometimes huge influx of posts on the forum. I know some days I come in with short time available and only glance at a few topics..and I know I’m missing stuff…but sometimes I have to just pick and choose a few topics…and then I feel bad later when I read about something that’s done and over…and I missed out on helping or participating. πŸ™

Dont feel to bad eaglefeather…it is a legit question, but it’s a thing that’s not really determined by anything really that you do. πŸ™‚

I think the question is a very good and valid one and is food for thought, as well as everyone else’s comments.

      Kudos for asking it.

Kudos on having the guts to ask! I’m sure you and I aren’t the only ones to wonder about that.

I think it’s pretty random, though the ‘old-timers’ πŸ˜‰ are more likely to get something organized for them, as they’re more familiar to more people. My guess, anyway.

Good for you for bringing this up, eaglefeather. πŸ™‚ It is a very good question.
Just from what I’ve noticed in the past, GB seems to have a good point. As well as Adaneth.

A personal example is that When I gave birth to my baby, the forum didn’t send anything to me, but others who have given birth to baby’s have recieved gifts from the forum and other individual members. I did get some clothes from Ski though! πŸ˜€ I also haven’t heard of any plans to get other new mommys any gifts (or maybe I’m out of the loop?) It’s just that I had always felt hurt when some got special attention for the same thing that I had done/experienced, but I didn’t get nearly as much attention. Whoa, that was a group gift from the forum and the card said so. πŸ˜• I put out a topic just like the others that are going around and you got a gift from the folks who PMd me. πŸ˜‰

Oh, and to answer the question, I come up with things when I think its appropriate. “The Forum” as a whole does not arrange anything, per se… When I come on and see someone going thru something that I feel could warrant a pick me up or congrats I will ask if anyone else feels that way, too, and whoever does will chip in for a gift. The amount depends on how many people respond to the idea. The less people who respond, the less attention is paid to the gift, would be my guess. Anyone can organize something so I guess its up to the individuals. πŸ™‚

I am amazed that I am not the only one to ponder this! πŸ˜€ Hehe…thanks for comforting my nerves! πŸ˜‰

a lot of people have noticed it…

I made my own sarcastic topic over in Community about it…

I’ve discussed it with a few people and we’ve talked about how we’ve had much more serious problems than some people complain about and how they are getting gifts for whining about it…

but basically we just get over it and deal with our own problems that we’d rather not announce to everyone…

and then later we’ll buy our own Windstones when our problems get better… πŸ˜€
