I was going out into the garage to spray his clear coat on… and I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I thought it might have been my cat or ferret trying to come outside with me. I turned to hold the door with my foot and… bam. The dragon fell… and his horn shattered in the carpeting. Messed up the gold on his spine and the paint on the spine too.
I spent all day on him. He was started and “finished” today and then this.
The only thing I have is sculpty… can that be used to repair something like this? I’ve never repaired anything before… and I hated sculpting class, so it’ll look awful either way.He came out just how I wanted him too… I thought that it had gone too smoothly… of course, then this happens.
Blah.
July 9, 2008 at 1:53 am #496092July 9, 2008 at 2:00 am #721290🙁 🙁 🙁 I’m so sorry! I know nothing of sculpting; well a little (didn’t do that well in class either…) The coloring is lovely, though! Hope you can fix the boo-boos…

July 9, 2008 at 2:06 am #721291Sculpty won’t work, you would have to bake the dragon, and that would cook the paint. That’s an easy fix though…if you would like the dragon fixed fast, you might want to ask Drag0nfeathers, or if you don’t mind waiting until Aug, I can patch him for you.

July 9, 2008 at 2:13 am #721292Awe I’m sorry Kujacker. 🙁 I’m sure there is a way to fix him good as new. But, Kyrin is right, Sculpy won’t work. 😕
He sure is pretty though…From what I can see. 😀July 9, 2008 at 2:19 am #721293Oh ouch! I’m petrified of this happening to me…
I’m so sorry!

July 9, 2008 at 2:48 am #721295Sorry, Kujacker. 🙁 I’ve had that same horn break on two of my PYO dragons and I used Apoxie Sculpt to fix them (actually, that’s the reason I first bought the stuff). Whether you fix him or someone else does for you, I’m sure he’ll look fine in the end!
July 9, 2008 at 2:55 am #721296On my repairs, for the really smooth areas, I just got some craft plaster from Michael’s and then once it dried a little bit I lightly brushed it with a soft, wet brush and that way I was able to resculpt it smoothly. You can leave it a little bigger, and then lightly sand it with very very fine sandpaper after if dries completely. For the scaly parts I used a exacto knife to carve the details back into a gob of plaster that was roughly the shape of the broken area… The horn will be pretty though to resculpt from scratch…
That’s how I do it if you want to tackle it anyway =) I’d try and find the broken horn though if you can help it, but it sounds like it might be a loss at this point.

Kyrin
actually, it will. I’ve repaired a flion with missing chunks ( postal damage ) using sculpey. Baking it in the oven isn’t viable, for the reason you’ve stated, but using an independent heatsource ( a heatgun, in this case ) allowed for heating the affected areas only, rather than the entire piece. As an interesting sidenote, my heatgun heats to 600 degrees C; none of the surrounding paint was affected.
July 9, 2008 at 3:16 am #721298I have apoxie sculpt and could resculpt it for you if you needed it done this month and don’t want to/can’t wait for Kyrin in August. I need to do the same to a dragon pyo I have (the horn broke off in the box… was fine when it first got here to inspect him, and then he got stored away in his box for safe keeping :?).
July 9, 2008 at 6:25 am #721299Aw, I’m sorry, Kujacker. Pretty-looking dragon, too. 🙁
July 9, 2008 at 6:48 am #721300Bummer. I really like the colour on him. Hope you can fix the horn.
July 9, 2008 at 7:48 am #721301I SOOOOOOOOO know what you are feeling. i’ve dropped two of them, one right after being so close to finishing him and the other RIGHT after i sprayed it >_<. I sent mine to kyrin to fix. she owns the first one that dropped and she is fixing the second one right now.(she is very sweet)
yeah…there is nothing more heart renching then seeing your hours of work fall to the ground. * lots of hugs*
July 9, 2008 at 10:22 am #721302I’m so sorry that happened, kuj! 😥 I hope you fix it or send it out for repair. From what I can see, it looks lovely!
