Ok, Chloe has been baffling me for quite a while now. When Chloe is hungry, I know it because she gets extremely fussy and she sucks on her fist. So, I will prepare a bottle and feed her. At firt, everything is fine…she eats normally, but then she will start to struggle and fight the bottle. So I will take the bottle out of her mouth and burp her. I will then try to give the bottle back to her (at this point she has usually had 2 oz) she will not take the bottle whatsoever and will fight it. The funny part is is that I KNOW she is still hungry because if I am to stop feeding her, she will get really angry in the next 10-15 minutes, and I can’t do anything to console her until I give her the bottle again, then she will gladly take it. This struggle goes on for about every two ounces she drinks. At that rate, it takes me forever to feed her, and I know that this isn’t a good feeding habit because this way she’ll eat every hour.
Does anybody know what I can do to get her to eat in one sitting? I make it a point to burp her very often because I often wonder if it’s gas bubbles, but I don’t think it is at this point.
Other than this she is a very happy baby, but I am so frustrated with it right now! Help!!
Edited to add that she is 3 1/2 months right now.

What are they for? She has her 4 month appt. on the 15th, so I might wait until then, or I might decide to give her pedi a call here soon.
July 2, 2008 at 5:22 pm #719455They help get the digestive tract to ‘co-ordinate’ its movements. Some babies can’t seem to get everything to work together until they’re a bit older and everything cramps up horribly; acts like gas but isn’t. Very distressing to both baby and parents. Sean grew out of the problem by the time he was 6 months old. It hit the hardest between 2 and 4 months.

Do you think gripe water could help with it at least until I can get her to the pedi?
July 2, 2008 at 5:36 pm #719457Sorry, no clue… however, sometimes the over the counter Mylicon Infant Drops helps. It also helped Sean to sleep him on his tummy on a hotwater bottle. I know, I know, you get told to sleep them on their backs, but for my boys tummy sleeping was def. better…

Yeah, Chloe loves sleeping on her belly! For the most part I place her on her back, but sometimes she needs to be on her belly. They used to tell parents that placing them on their belly was best…then they switched it to their side….now their backs. I wonder what rules will change by the time Chloe has her own children? 😆
July 2, 2008 at 5:55 pm #719459I dont know about the feeding situation…but I do know all mine were vehement belly sleepers. 🙂
July 2, 2008 at 8:41 pm #719460You could try the Mylicon, you can even double the dose on the box if you think it nessacary. BUT, it’s for gas. We used to add it to the kids formula and it would take care of all those terrible frothy bubbles.
My guess would be she may be going thru a growth spurt and be so hungry that she wolfs down 2 ounces and feels full until it has had time to settle. Is she kicking her feet alot while she is fussy? Does she pass gas ok? How often does she or is she spitting up? How long is she going in between bottles? Do you notice this every time you feed her or more in the morning or night time? Also, what size nipples do you have on your bottles? They make different ‘flow’ sizes for different stages. Atleast the bottles we used did…..what the heck were they….A something….

She does kick her feet a lot when she refuses the bottle, She passes gas just fine, She rarely spits up, but yesterday she spit up a few times, but hasn’t spit up at all today, She goes for 2 1/2 to 3 hours between bottles-but waits longer between bottles when she is sleeping, She is using the stage one nipple-soothie and nuk brand.
I’m not sure if it’s a growth spurt, but I don’t know. This has been going on for a couple weeks now.
July 2, 2008 at 11:39 pm #719463You probably should talk to your ped. I would think she should be up to around 6 ounce bottles. how much formula does she have in a 24 hour period? Maybe try the mylicon and see if that helps her. Sometimes when they kick and fuss it’s because of ouchy gas bubbles.
Give your pediatricians office a call. Thats why they are there. I know I have called mine tons of times. You may have to leave a message, but they will call you back…..
July 3, 2008 at 12:09 am #719464I’m no help with this since I don’t give Alyssa a bottle but Danny does. I know he has had problems with her not wanting bottles so I’ll see if he can put his two cents in.

Oh, she will drink four to six ounces, if not more every feeding. She was a lot better today which I am relieved of that, but she had a screaming fit for quite a while, and we couldn’t console her. We gave her some gripe water and while she was still screaming we placed her in the swing. She fell asleep, but I left her in the swing. After 20 minutes or so I took her out, and she was hungry, so I fed her but I felt her toot a lot…so I do believe it is gas.
She has a funny eating habit though because when she wakes up, I’ll wait until she tells me she’s hungry, then she’ll only drink 2 ounces. Then after 2 1/2 hours she is hungry again then she’ll take 4 ounces…then 6 ounces…then she drinks about eight ounces, then back down to 6. The exact amount differs every day, but it is the same pattern. Yesterday (including her middle of the night feeding) she drank 30 ounces.
