Tonight we went to the Demolition Derby, and had a blast!

My 7 year old son participated in the Greased Pig contest, with about 30 other 5-7 year olds, poor piggie…but they all tried really hard, he was so disappointed when he didn’t catch it. Maybe next year.

The demolition was great, 4 heats, then the final…the one sponsored by John Deere was the final winner, and he literally killed the competition…there were roughly 20 cars, by the time all was said and done all were dead but the Deere car, just goes to show, “Nothing runs like a Deere!” Had to say it. 😈 😆

My favorite little car out there, most were Lincolns or Cads, we never did figure out what make it was, made it to the third heat, then ignited, first smoke then huge flames erupted from under what was left of the hood. Kinda scary, but they were quick with the fire extinguishers and the driver was fine. Another car early on had it’s radiator explode, the driver ended up getting radiator fluid in his eyes, but was taken to emergency and released before the Derby ended, so he was alright.

Fun was had by all, we had a blast screaming our heads off and cheering. The kids were great, our 2 year old was captivated by all the activity and the cars and was only a bit ancy towards the end while we were waiting for the final competition.

Overall it was well organized with events in between heats that kept our attention. A hot dog eating contest, then a tricycle race with groups of kids, 5-7, 8-10, 11-13. The winner of each race got a new bike. Then there was a race with husband/wife teams and cardboard cars, the husband was blindfolded and the wife had to talk him through the obstacle course, the winning couple ran the whole thing, there was a 3 couple pileup at one point and the 2 stragglers fell over the telephone poles at the end. Then there was the greased pig contest, two groups, but the first group my son was in was huge. He did manage to touch the pig a couple times, but wasn’t able to hold on to him. He was so dejected, then the poor kid missed most of the candy thrown into the crowd, so we took pity on him and got him a snowcone and a hamburger.

We had a great time and the best part was that we only spent about $37.50 for tickets, concessions for 5 people…beats the movie theatre hands down!

Tomorrow I am off to see Kenny Rogers in concert…I am so excited, I just love him!

And next month the Blue Angels will be putting on a show here, and we’re definately there! I’ve always wanted to see them.

Okay, so that’s it…it’s so nice to have something fun to report.

Yeah, the derby was really exciting, even the kids loved it, Alex had said before we left for it that he wanted to stay home. (Alex is 7)

When he was jumping up and down and yelling and obviously having a great time, Bill called out to him, “Hey, you can’t be having fun, you didn’t want to come, so quit that!” He actually sobered up until we told him Bill was teasing him. *laugh*

We’re thinking perhaps next year Kris will get a car and join the fray, he was really animated about getting a car so he could, and since those big cars are going for nothing due to gas prices, we just might be able to get him one.

If he does, we plan to paint the car like ZigZag the Tiger-striped Skunk and put her on the hood, we got Max’s permission long ago for such a project. 🙂

You lucky dog! Kenny Rogers!!! 😯 He is my favorite country singer!

Demos are a blast! Ours was lastnight, and ofcourse the one I picked got stuck on the wall, but drove out after everything was said and done. 🙄
The best one I have ever seen was a mid 80’s ford escort who made it through 4 heats. In the 5th he got smashed between the wall and a huge continental 😯 …He was out. 😛 Everyone threw food at the announcers when he told him to break his stick off. 😆 That little car had the crowd cheering and on it’s feet. The funniest part was watching him squirt in and out of all those monster metal beasts that were getting stuck in the mud and to eachother. It was sorta like a Herbie movie! 😆

I am glad you had a great time! 😀

It sounds like a great day!

Enjoy Kenny – he does a great show! I’m glad he’s had a resurgence in his popularity but what is with the plastic surgery? We were just talking about it at work yesterday, oddly enough. He doesn’t even look like himself!

I just went to a Brad Paisley concert last night. It was great! Really hot and humid but no one cared. One of the opening acts was Chuck Wicks – I have to go get a CD – he was good. But if one more person asks me who Brad Paisley is! 👿

That really does sound cool! I’m glad you all had a good time. I’d like to go to one of those sometime, or even a rodeo.

Hope you have a great time at the Kenny Rogers concert. 🙂

Well the day was fun. Headed to the Casino he was playing at and went to my favorite slot machine and promptly won $50 over my starting money. Then silly me, I didn’t cash it out and ended up losing most of it until I reached about $7.66…then I hit a bonus round and won $83.70 in the round…whoo hoo. Cashed out at about $91, then put $31 back in, leaving $60, then went to the concert.

Concert was good, Kenny is definately getting older, his walk is pretty stiff, but his voice is still pretty good. His memory must be going though, cause he skipped the middle verse in Coward of the County and the first one in Daytime Lovers.

He’s a funny guy though, told us stories, teased us about our singing, one section did a terrible job of holding up their end and he razed them for it, we all got a laugh. I like him, he seems like the nice guy I’ve always thought he was.

After the concert I went back into the casino and proceeded to wipe myself out…but it was still fun. Had dinner with a nice lady from Eagle, Id who was also there by herself, we ended up in the buffet line together and neither of us was too excited about eating alone, so when I asked if she’d like to join me, she did. We had a lovely dinner of all kinds of goodies, then chatted for about an hour, then she went to her hotel room and I headed home.

I did get some pretty good shots of Kenny singing, and I even stopped on the way home and took pics of the sandpiper nest I found a couple days ago, mama was off somewhere, but the eggs were still warm, so I imagine she’d be back soon. I took my pics and left so I wouldn’t stress her too much if she saw me.

I hope to go by there again in a few days and catch her sitting.

Anyway, overall I had a really great weekend. Can’t beat that. Tomorrow is repair day, I’m going to see how many I can complete in one day.

Oh yeah. 😆 I got to see my first demolition derby in Wisconsin last summer and had a blast. Too bad those don’t happen here.
