Can you show us some of your patterns? How long have you been doing it? And do you frame them when you are done?
June 22, 2008 at 6:15 pm #495921June 23, 2008 at 2:18 pm #716709Sure! I’ve been cross-stitching since 1990 or so. 😯 Crap that’s nearly 20 years! I haven’t created any patterns of my own yet. I mostly do Counted Cross-Stitch kits that come with everything I need. I have done a few patterns where I had to buy the supplies though. Most of my projects have been framed, though I have turned three of them into pillows.
I’ve posted most of my projects that I still have access too on the deviantart account I created. The others (mostly small projects) I gave away as presents and don’t have any contact with the people who have them anymore. 🙁
This is one of the oldest projects I’ve completed.
I did this as a wedding present for my husband.
This one was done in honor of my grandmother who decorated eggs.
I did this one the year I graduated high school. Stitching on black fabric with blended colors (one thread one color, second thread a different color) is no fun at all. I recommend you do something like this in strong light. Unlike me who did it late at night with a small lamp shining down on it for the most part.
If you want to see some of the others you can find them here:

June 23, 2008 at 3:12 pm #716711Your work is just beautiful!!
My sister did a large dragon surrounding a castle for me, which is framed. I would never have the patience to even attempt one.
June 23, 2008 at 3:41 pm #716712Ah wow! My favorite is the butterfly one! My grandma Nita used to do cross stitching, and it takes alot of dedication and patience. 😀 😀
June 23, 2008 at 10:07 pm #716713Oh wow! The butterfly is gorgeous! I used to do cross-stitch growing up, but then I could’t find any decent patterns that weren’t cheesey, so I stopped doing it (and got into painting and what not instead).
June 23, 2008 at 11:19 pm #716714Those are really nice. My great-grandma used to do cross stitching, I still have a pillow she made me. Well, not really, it’s not HERE it’s in Grande Prairie or Valleyview, I don’t remember which.
June 29, 2008 at 1:10 pm #716715Hey I do cross stitch, LOL, I dont have pics though, maybe I will take a couple of pics of some of mine. I Have a set of mythilogical bears that are the last thing I have done, I plan on turning them into a quilt, but I have to buy a new sewing machine first 😆 .
I have a really nice pattern of wolves that I need to do, but I have to find the floss first, we only have DMC here in town and the pattern is in Anchor I believe.
Anyhow, very very nice work.
June 29, 2008 at 3:12 pm #716716You can always convert the floss from Anchor to DMC. I know there are lots of conversion charts available for that. Whenever I have to buy floss I always get DMC. I’ve never knowingly used Anchor (unless that was the floss provided in the kit – since they don’t usually tell you what type floss is included). This might be one of the easiest conversion chart to use on the internet.
June 29, 2008 at 7:16 pm #716717Oooh I love the pillow. I cant see the wedding one. I just get a red x. Is that the butterfly?
I love the frame on that first one, too. Very cool.

Yes the wedding one for my husband was butterfly on an oriental background.June 30, 2008 at 12:33 am #716719pegasi1978 wrote:You can always convert the floss from Anchor to DMC. This pattern has so many subtle colors that when you convert it 3-4 of the anchor blues come up as the same DMC blue.

Sounds complicated! I’d love to see the pattern. 😀

I missed your comment on the frame earlier. It’s an interesting one that’s for sure, the rough hewn wood. My parents had it framed for me at the Michael’s in the town they were living in. The framer did a poor job of lining up the edges of the wood inside the frame as well as stretching the canvas over a piece of foam board that was too thick and it eventually cracked the glass in half. When I was getting some other items framed by my favorite framer I took it along and he fixed it up for me, good as new. I might have chosen something a little different than what my parents did, but I’ve grown to like it over the years. I just wish I had washed the fabric better. I can see dirt ingrained in it from the edges of the hoop I used to stretch it as well as from my hands. I wasn’t as good at making sure my hands were clean before I started cross-stitching then as I am now.
