I took Donovan to his first fair last night, and we rode the rides til he turned green! He also won a goldfish…you know..the old ball toss game…sooo….
We got a simple fishbowl setup for Goldie…Donovan’s new fish. I also bought a few neon tetras to keep him company. Since we didnt want to deal with the complications of filters, air pumps and ph adjusters….we just bought some live plants, which work pretty well for more hardy fish species. There’s also a teeny weeny chinese peco in there too…just in case we get algae. Since I didnt want to deal with a tank either….and I dont know where to find a used water cooler…I settled on a giant clear cookie jar. It’s actually a pretty pleasant addition to my workdesk. Here’s some pics of my workdesk, with its new inhabitants. Eventually I want a giant water cooler…but we’ll keep the bottle opening capped…that would be so cool…anyone else love the movie “Real Genius” ?

The only thing I’d be concerned with about that tank is the seal, which looks to be air-tight. Fish and plants still need oxygen, so I’d leave it balanced open a hair.
😀
Cute workspace!
June 15, 2008 at 11:44 pm #714228there’s a penny on the back of it, holding the lid up slightly, the glass lid actually slides around a bit more than I like on it. It looks like there’s a rubber seal in the pic…but really there’s not. 🙂
June 15, 2008 at 11:47 pm #714229Fabulous. 😀 Then you get the best of both worlds!
“Needless to say, I was a little despondent about the meltdown. But then, in the midst of my preparation for hara-kiri, it came to me: it is possible to synthesize excited bromide in an argon matrix. Yes, its an excimer, frozen in its excited state.”
I have to watch that movie tonight, now. 😀

June 16, 2008 at 1:40 am #714232We got 12 goldfish 6 years back or so. Three are still alive, and the other 9 died in the first month 🙄 but they *were* feeder goldfish, and they did travel an hour without a tank, in my defense. Well, in my dad’s defense I didn’t feed them or clean their tank.
Now that I think about it, holy crap those three fish are 6 now? That’s longer then we ever thought they’d live!
June 16, 2008 at 2:09 am #714233Real Genius is great , i love the sledding in the dorm . Dont put fish near the window ..my sister did that and got some boiled carp
June 16, 2008 at 2:15 am #714234Aww very cute! I got my betta back in February, there was a lot of info I didn’t know about them-like them needing a heater! Not sure if that applies for goldfish though!
June 16, 2008 at 2:21 am #714235Goldfish are cold water fish. They don’t necessarily need a heater, if the environment is warm enough. With goldfish it’s more important to keep them cool. (Not cold) Strange things happen when they are hot…

That’s good to know! Finnley needed a heater for the winter cause my apartment is cold in Wisconsin. It was really neat to see him perk up getting into his warm new tank after being in his frigid little betta cup, I swear he changed from a rusty red to nice and bright!

June 16, 2008 at 6:48 am #714238Pretty Fishy.
“Did you know there’s a guy living in our closet?
You’ve seen him too?
Who is he?
Hollyfeld.
Why does he keep going into our closet?
Why do you keep going into our closet?
To get my clothes – but that’s not why he goes in there.
Of course not, he’s twice your size – your clothes would never fit him.
Think before you ask these questions, Mitch. Twenty points higher than me? Thinks a big guy like that can wear his clothes? “One of my all time favorite movies!! I’ve seen it so many times, my bf hates watching it with me cause I mouth all the dialog. 😆
June 16, 2008 at 1:12 pm #714239Goldie and the other fish seemed fine this morning, although I’m thinking he’s eating the plants….hrrrm…ah well..at least they dont cost too much. I foresee him getting too big for this jar pretty soon..but then again..we used to have a 45 gallon fishtank, with goldfish too big for it in there. I had one a long time ago that was as long as my forearm…. These guys can get huge. Sigh..I suppose when he gets too big we’ll find a local pond or something to set him free in, I dunno. The tetras at least dont get any bigger. I should also distance them a bit from the lava lamp, since that will heat up their water…
