We decided to sign Alyssa up for swimming lessons today. Danny was looking for something to do together and I was talking to a friend at work who said we should try it out. I think its kind of funny signing a 4 month old up for swimming lessons. I was watching the today show where they had the little babies in the pool that had taken swimming lessons and where taught to roll on their backs and cry if they fall in a pool. I never plan to leave Alyssa alone anywhere near water but just incase something happens I want her to know how to atleast float on her back. We went on a tour of the facility today and talked with the staff. They have a heated pool so its not such a shock to the babies. Then we had to go out and find swim pants for Alyssa and some of those swim shoes for Danny. She starts on June 19th and I plan on taking some pictures of her first time in a pool. It should be fun. Anyone else do swimming baby lessons?

I did… when I was really little XD My parents had a swimming pool so they signed me up for the type of lessons you’re talking about. She said they’d even toss us in in winter clothes to make sure we could be safe even if we were wearing heavy clothing.

My poor parents had to pay for a large number of lessons because while I would float on my back, I wouldn’t turn and grab the edge of the pool when my head bumped against the side, I just floated around the pool like a little ping pong ball, lol. Eventually they just gave up and figured I wouldn’t drown if I did fall in so left it at that. XD

I can’t swim at all. But my niece and nephew both take lessons with my sister-in-law, my brother can’t swim either. I always did wish that I had learned. 🙄

It’s never too late to learn. 🙂

Um, actually, I’m a bit aquaphobic now. I can’t stand to have water in my face (not even in the shower, I keep a wash cloth handy) and start to panic as soon as the water level reaches my chest.

Oh that’s a shame. 😕 It can be quite nice to relax in a pool, floating free in the water.

I love swimming. My husband does too. He has CP, and says that being in the pool is one of the only times he feels like he can walk and move normally. I’m a believer of the soothing, healing qualities water has.

                      I think it’s a great idea! 😀

My mum is a Lifeguard, so we were all it the water very early. I still love being in the water. My youngest brother was a very high energy kid (would be called ADHD today) and my parents would take turns taking him swimming to wear him out.

Can’t wait to see pics of Alyssa and Daddy!!! 😀

Yes, please post pics! I did not know you could start lessons that early! 😯 Like Dragon Master, my parents didn’t try to teach me until I was around 6, and I was a terror! Screamed the whole time! 😆 I still don’t enjoy swimming actually. 😕

That’s okay Jasmine. I have the same problem with swimming, although I’m fine in the shower. I did make sure my son learned to swim. 😉

My sister sent both of her kids to swiming lessons very early about six months I think and my niece (her daughter) started her identical twins at about nine months. They were in the premie unit at the childrens hospital until they were about 3 months old.

I didn’t learn to swim until I was about 12 when my mother decided my sister age 7 and I needed to learn because neither one of my parents knew how to swim. She made us take lessons until we passed our junior lifesaving. I will never forget having to go down to the bottom of that pool and hauling that dummy to the surface – I hated that because I didn’t like putting my face under water and I still don’t.

Oh! I didn’t know they started lessons so early! Kudos to you!

The lady at the swim school said they start as early as 3 months. I figure since there is alot of water around here between the bay and the ocean she needs to learn how to swim asap. I didn’t learn till I was around 6 or 7 and I don’t even know if they taught babies to swim back then.
