June 2, 2008 at 8:11 pm #710034Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear that.
June 2, 2008 at 8:12 pm #710035That is heart breaking. Isn’t there anyplace where you live that has a low cost hospital that is manned by vets that volunteer their time?
Do you have any idea of the cost to have the puppy looked at?
June 2, 2008 at 8:17 pm #710036Take him to the humane society/ASPCA. You may have to release him, but it’s better than having to put him to sleep.
I wish there was something else that could be done.June 2, 2008 at 8:23 pm #710037Ask what the price of an exam fee is and have that done at the very least before you totally give up and throw in the towel.
The diagnostics like x-rays and bloodwork will be what are so expensive, but you’d be surprised what a physical exam might show.
If you have a regular vet that you see, know and trust, go there for a physical exam first, then discuss your financial constraints. Some clinics offer Care Credit that you can apply for (which is sort of like a credit card, it pays the vet in full, and offers a payment plan for you) and sometimes they can do minimal treatment for not too much. There’s still a flicker of hope.
Please remember before you get upset at the clinics telling you they don’t offer payment plans that so many clients who ask for payment plans just don’t bother to pay back at all. Vet clinics aren’t subsidized by the government like human hospitals are, and are a for profit business. The receptionist, the vet and his/her technicians and the office manager all have to eat. Most of us would love to be able to give our time and supplies to your animal, but it’s not possible.
I wish you the best of luck in finding help for your pup!
June 2, 2008 at 8:24 pm #710038That sucks 🙁
How much will it cost to have him looked at?
I agree, surrendering the dog to the ASPC or some other group that can afford it is a better alternative to having the puppy put to sleep.
I’m sorry Dracomancer 🙁 I know how hard it is to have a sick pet you can’t do anything for. It would have cost us 3,000 to have my kitty’s surgery, and that was just for an exploratory surgery. Putting a pet to sleep is one of the hardest decisions to make.
June 2, 2008 at 8:38 pm #710039I hope you can work something out I HATE to see animals go down for no good reason

June 2, 2008 at 9:13 pm #710043June 2, 2008 at 9:18 pm #710044What a great person to donate like that. I also recommend giving him up. Its sad, but they need someone who can take care of them in emergencies like this. 🙁 Keep us posted. I hope its nothing serious.
