I’ve never really seen with my own eyes how animals can affect kids.
Mike and I took two of our ponies to my kids’ school for a show and tell.
The first group of kids were Pre-K. The ponies did SOOOOO good! They stood still and let all the kids do their petting.
The next group of kids were the developmentally disabled kids. Wow! Kids who normally were in their own little worlds came alive when they saw the ponies. Their eyes brightened and they started talkin their own talk.
One little boy who the teachers have been trying to get through to went up to Silo and hugged her leg and started saying “horsie”. The teachers were flaberghasted he talked!
We had an absolutely great day and the ponies were angels! One little boy got away from his teacher and ran UNDER Silo 😯 I think I just about had a heart attack! But she didn’t move an inch. Thank God!
We’re going to be invited back next year!
Now I’m tired 😆Congratulations, Phoenix! I’m glad it went so well! Your ponies sound like they have really sweet, mellow dispositions. You had to feel good watching them interact with all those children. 😉
That’s great! Some animals can be very understanding when it comes to little ones. I’m glad you were able to help one child open up a bit, even if just for a day! 🙂 Animals have a wonderful effect on children, as does music. Animals don’t come with the same stigmas of talking to another human… they don’t judge like we do. 🙂
I was talking with one of the teachers. She said one of her boys (alpha male type) was having a horrible day and just being really disruptive. When he came back in from the ponies, she said he was a different kid.
I’m definately going to be volunteering other places. Whe have a couple things to work on. Like doubley making sure someone running under them will be Ok.That is so admirable, Phoenix. One of my new relatives by marriage does that for a living. Its like animal physical therapy. She said that its amazing what abilities the animals bring out in some of those kids. Some kids that cant even walk have no problems riding and guiding a horse. Its wonderful to see, though it makes me tear up a little.
I’ve seen that happen in real life too. It is amazing what animals can do in therapy. It makes me tear up to read about things like it too. I’m such a sap some days….
That’s why I love animals so much. They’re the best therapy ever, for anyone.
