I made a coffee-table style book of my artwork, as I had some friends asking me to make one. Here are the details for any that might want one. For those of you that may not realize, I do a ton of art other than Windstones (you’re welcome to see here: http://www.featherdust.com). There will be no Windstones in this book!
“A Whisper of Wings: The fantasy art of Jennifer Miller”
The Facts:
8.5″ tall, 11″ wide.
Hardbound.
Wrapped in green linen
78 pages (1 page= 1 side of the paper)
Full color glossy interior
Full bleed
4 sections: Introduction, Digital art, Traditional art, and SketchbookThe Good:
-The print quality is quite nice.
-Full color through the entire book, full bleed.
-The cover is neat… it’s die cut so you can see the inside image peeking through. Fairly unique. See photo above.
-I’m going to hand sign each and every book I produce, and there will be a free, genuine sketch original on a loose sheet included in each. Sketches will be a random fantasy critter- whatever I decide to draw!
-No watermarks on images, and there are close-ups of many that show detail you can’t see online.
-Lots of sketches and behind the scenes style stuff.
-I opted to do linen instead of suede leather for those that prefer not to purchase items made with animal products. The not so good:
I like to be 100% up front, honest, and open about anything I sell. It’s important to me that customers are always happy. So, the bad?
-Well… this book is mostly dragons and gryphons. There is a littering of other critters within, but I’ll be totally honest. If you don’t like dragons or gryphons, you may not like this one.
-Cost. This is totally 100% made by me, (save the actual printing and binding)… not a big publishing house nor someone with endless and vast amounts of cash. While 78 pages is a good number, this isn’t a hugely thick book. It costs me per page, and if I added much more, I couldn’t afford to sell it. I won’t lie. This is fairly expensive for a book! I’m only making a few bucks off of each. It costs me a flat fee for the creation of the book, binding, and for each page. Add in shipping and I’ll be lucky to make $2-3 per book. Call it a labor of love! π But… if you want, you can think of it this way. While the print quality is not as good as my actual art prints, it’s still pretty nice. On par or better than high end laser prints on glossy stock. If you were to buy the images in this book as individual prints, it would cost you well over $500!
-You can see most of the work in this book in my online gallery. However most of the sketches and step-by-step stuff is not found online.PRE-ORDRS ARE CLOSED (5/30/2008). You can still order this book at normal price though. It’s $68.00 + shipping, just drop me a note.
