Today while I was at work my husband was downstairs putting together baseball card packs for our yard sale this weekend. As always he opened the front door (leaving the screen door locked) to let some of the nice air in and let our cat Hobo stare at the birds outside. He was sitting on the living room floor so if you come up to the front door you wouldn’t be able to see him unless you came inside. Hobo was sitting by the door looking outside when one of the neighborhood children came up to the door and started talking to him. Danny didn’t get up because he figured the kid would just talk to him then move on to next door where all the kids go to play. As he sat there he heard the kid yell at my cat “HEY CAT LOOK OUT ITS A DOG WOOF WOOF WOOF” so my cat freaked out and ran. Danny ran over to the front door and told the kid to stop yelling at his cat. He said the kid told him he was looking for Brandon (the kid from next door). He told him you know he doesn’t live here he lives next door. So this kid says I know that and runs off down the street. Well now Danny is pissed that this little punk yelled at our cat who is now a giant puff ball hiding in the back room so he watches what house the kid goes in, scoops up Alyssa, and marches down the street. He goes up to the kids house and talks to his mom telling her what he just did. She asked her son if he did yell at that mans cat which of course he said no to so she gave him a spanking. I bet he won’t be yelling at my cat anymore. I’m so glad I never let him outside with little punks like that around.

And wth at the kid. Being me, I have no problem putting a random kid in place… I would have been yelling at him like he actually touched my cat.
I can’t believe how some people/kids treat animals. Yelling is abuse too!May 15, 2008 at 1:27 am #703165I’m so glad to hear that the parent believed Danny over her son. I hear so much anymore from my mother (Who works at an elementary school) that parents gasp and shock and exclaim that it could not have been *their* baby that did such things.
And the kids go unpunished.
Good on the mother, what’s her address? I want to send her roses.
May 15, 2008 at 1:41 am #703166Yeah the kid that was throwing rocks at the back of my house told his parents that he didn’t do it… I took pictures of everything… and my husband showed them to his parents… OH talk about getting into trouble!
Glad to hear that the kids mother didn’t buy into that “my child is an angel” crap. 😉
May 15, 2008 at 2:07 am #703167Spare the rod and spoil the child…BS! I got my butt spanked, won’t kill those kids either. I spanked my kid. I hope he spanks his. There is a big difference between beating and spanking. 😡
May 15, 2008 at 2:09 am #703168Great job Danny, and the kids mom!! I’d be ticked if anyone ever dared to yell at either of my cats-one of which is already so shy that I am the only one who ever sees her.
May 15, 2008 at 2:10 am #703169Glad that parent actually did something. Too many dont.
May 15, 2008 at 5:38 am #703170Good for that kid’s mom. It’s nice to see there are still parents who know how to discipline their children.
May 15, 2008 at 4:23 pm #703171It nice to know some parents still believe in old fashion dicipline and believing their child could actually do this. I also got my butt spanked as a child when I did something wrong and I don’t think it warped my personality or growth. The problem today is to many parents say “Now honey don’t do that” and the kid knows that is all that will happen to him or her.
Awhile back I was standing in a check-out line and the lady behind me was holding a small child that was kicking and screaming – she finally left the store with him and her mother, who was with her, finished checking out. She told me its a shame nowdays if you even swat your child in public you can be reported and the child removed from the home because of suspected abuse.
May 15, 2008 at 6:36 pm #703172Like everyone else here I’m glad that kid got what he deserved. Huge kudos to his parent. There’s just no need to be nasty to animals like that and just hearing what that kid did made my blood boil. I know if I saw anyone being nasty to my cats, they’d soon know they were in the wrong.
Darjeb reminded me of something that happened in a supermarket last year when I was on one of those “self-scan” checkouts. Two kids came up to me and started handling my shopping, passing the groceries to me and what-not. This really really annoyed me. I was shocked that the mother never called her boys over when she realised they weren’t with her (I later found out that she was on an opposite checkout).
I first politely told the boys “will you go away” and when they persisted, I promptly shouted out “Does anyone own these kids! They are not mine and they are bothering me!!”
The mother then showed herself and all she did was call the boys over (pretty much like what Darjeb described “now, stay here honey”), no word of an apology to me and no telling off for the kids. I didn’t leave without reminding her of a certain high-profile supermarket kidnapping and murder in the UK. I could have been anyone.Maybe we should start a “worst experiences with unruly kids” topic hehe. 🙂
May 15, 2008 at 6:42 pm #703173Like everyone else, I’m glad the kid got punished, and I think the law that you can’t spank your child anymore is stupid. There is a huge difference between beatings and spankings. We got the belt (and my mom’s hand, but that was the easier punishment) and it was a great “behavioral correctional tool” 😛 So long as you know where to draw the line and stick to it, it works.

It’s that way here, too. When the school has called me (rarely) to report some mischief, I always tell them to punish the offender as they see fit. I have always gotten stunned silence for a few seconds. My kids are basically good, but everybody slips up sometimes and has to take the consequences.
