He’s a gift for a friend, who wanted a PYO painted like a Silver dragon from AD&D — they start out blue-gray and slowly mature to solid silver.
The PYO’s pretty small, so I wanted him to look like he was just starting to get his true metallic color in; he’s all different shades of silver and gray, with touches of blue interference and silver leafing.
This was definitely the *hardest* PYO I’ve done so far — the subtle shading, the leafing, and the specific pattern all gave me fits. π I was sure, around April, that I’d *never* get him finished! But eventually I did, and he’s gone off to his new home now.

May 9, 2008 at 4:20 am #699772Looks nice! I have been wanting to do my own PYO, but I am SO NERVOUS on how he will turn out. Maybe one day (when keepers are back) I will get the guts to do one. But I love yours! Great job! π
May 9, 2008 at 5:29 am #699773You’ll do fine, Kenziesmommy. Give it a try! π
Nice work, nighcrow.May 11, 2008 at 2:11 am #699774Ohmygosh, that dragon is beautiful! The detailing is so subtle and smooth. I can only imagine how long it took you to do it. My mouth is hanging open and my eyes are glazing just THINKING about it! π― It looks great, Nightcrow. Congratulations!! π
May 11, 2008 at 3:24 am #699775Interesting idea using the gray and metallic silver to demonstrate his changing color. Are you ready to start your next one π

THANK YOU! π I was so nervous about this one, because of how long it took and of course because, since he’s been in progress since November ’07, I’ve had a LOT of time to find and obsess over every flaw! π I’m so glad you like him, and that at least some of the detail (I think most people would say, “obsessive detail”) shows up!

I am!
Heehee! The first thing I did (okay, after taking two weeks to giggle and sigh with relief) was order two more… one for me, one for the next Christmas present. π
The next present-dragon is shaping up to be the complete opposite of this guy — LOTS of color, everywhere, and bright-bright silver! π Blue eyes, zircon jewel, and blue-green-silver paint job. I’m excited by the progress I’ve made so far!
The other one I bought is for me, and I plan to do him in white and gold, to harmonize with my own dragons. π But he’s going to be worked on in between the present dragon. (Present dragons, actually — when the PYOs are available again, I’ve got to get a start on the second planned present.)
I figure two is about the max I can do in one year for gifts, so I made two little “dragon tokens” (tied a little tag to a toy dragon that explains what the token is for) to give away. They get the token for their birthday, then send it back to me at Christmas in exchange for the dragon (being a student, the cost of PYOs means that whoever wants one has to consent to it being a birthday-and-Christmas-combined present).
I should put a picture of the token in the next photo session… π
