I was at work last night and after our last call (around 1am) I heard someone talking outside of the fire station. They where talking so low I thought it was coming from across the street so I didn’t get up to look. I wish I had because someone broke into the cars infront of the station. My partner went out to his truck and noticed all his compartments were open but his doors where closed. He never locks his truck so they got into it and went through everything. Luckly I’m so anal about locking my cars that they didn’t get into mine. We had mail thrown all over the front lawn of the fire station. I walked down the street and there was a trail of mail. I found my partners scrubs and medication that he had in his backpack that the thieves took dumped out in the driveway of a street three houses down. It’s strange because they didn’t take any of the money in his ash tray and left his satelite radio. When we called the police they said alot of people where calling in with things missing from their cars. I found some ladies brand new checks thrown in the woods next to the road and all her mail was open. I felt bad because if I would have gotten up I might have seen who did it but I was so sleepy from running all night I just blew it off and stayed in bed. I hope they catch who did it but I know they wont. I’m just glad they didn’t actually brake anything. I was sleeping with the window wide open I’m surprised they didn’t try to get into the station.

April 23, 2008 at 4:12 pm #692701Don’t beat yourself up: like you said, it sounded like they were across the street. If you had gotten out, maybe one of them would have done something stupid and you may have gotten hurt.
It’s just very good only stuff was lost.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

What she said! You never know what they might have done if you caught them doing that.

I completely agree!

Exactly. I know of someone that rushed outside to stop a couple kids from breaking into their car that wound up beaten with a baseball bat 😯

April 23, 2008 at 5:30 pm #692706I know how you feel, pd. A couple summers ago our grill got stolen from our back yard on a Sunday morning. I was in my office, right inside the window looking out back — but there’s this outcropping of the house that blocks me from seeing the part where the grill was kept– when it happened. I thought I heard a noise, but figured it was my hubby outside, so I didn’t go look. I may have caught them in the act (and it probably was college kids, and they probably would have dropped it and ran) if I had gone to check on it.
I still kick myself about that. Never again. I always check now.

April 23, 2008 at 6:13 pm #692709I’m glad no one got hurt and you didn’t check out their voices! As I tell myself when driving and some idiot is driving erratically, if I feel like making a fuss, I think: “Is it worth my life?” You must keep things in perspective.
April 23, 2008 at 7:48 pm #692710I would have called dispatch and had them send the cops. I’m sure my partner would have gone outside to kick their butts though so I would have had to go with him. I cant let him get his butt kicked by himself.
