An earthquake! 5.4 probably doesn’t seem like much to people in California, but it surprised the heck out of me! I bet nightcrow and Rusti felt it! Jiggled my bed until I woke up, thinking something was in my room about to jump on me…until I heard my desk lamp rattling and made the connection. None of my Windstones moved an inch, in case you were wondering. XD Like a rock, baby. Yeah! No pictures fell off the wall, broken china, or cracks in the foundation, either. We have a nice, wiggly wood-frame house. =)
My mother thought a raccoon was on the roof (she was half-asleep too)! I told her that was one big raccoon. XD XD It’s crazy how far away it was felt, though! All the way up in Chicago and Saint Louis! I think there was some damage to a few buildings near the epicenter (West Salem, IL), and one guy over in IL said his pictures fell off the wall. Just so long as the river doesn’t start running backwards, right? @_@

April 18, 2008 at 12:19 pm #691318Yeah, we heard about it on the news here this morning!
Good thing it wasn’t any worse π―

Sure you do. Is Hawaii prone to earthquakes?
We periodically get little ones here, but I always sleep through them.April 18, 2008 at 12:24 pm #691320We get tremors, last year there were a few. I’d wake up and here the dishes rattling, and the bed shaking.
I’m glad it wasn’t worse and that everything was okay.

Ditto. I used to live in SouCal and it was kind of fun. But the Northridge quake of 94 was no fun. It was an experience, though!
I remember walking down to the grocery store and being amazed that some isles looked untouched, while other isles had everything off the shelves. Earthquakes are fascinating things.
April 18, 2008 at 1:58 pm #691322Yep, I felt it. It woke me up and I had to sit up and wait for it to finish. It lasted 20 seconds and I figured out pretty much right off the bat what it was.
Nothing was damaged where I live, but it’s definitely the talk of the office this morning!

We periodically get little ones here, but I always sleep through them.I wouldnt think so, being a little island and all… I never thought of it. I suppose we will get an earthquake every time there is a big wave. πApril 18, 2008 at 2:08 pm #691324skigod377 wrote:Greater Basilisk wrote:skigod377 wrote:Glad everyone is ok. April 18, 2008 at 2:15 pm #691326No kidding! Its an island, and really no where to go… BUT damn I wanna go there! π π
April 18, 2008 at 2:20 pm #691327It woke me up, too! The Guinea pigs were going nuts. I think I actually bolted up in bed and thought “earthquake!” But I was half asleep and thought I had dreamed it when it suddenly went away. “That’s stupid… there’s no quakes in Indiana,” and I went back to sleep. But then it was on the news this morning. My whole family slept through it but me, and I’m usually a heavy sleeper π
April 18, 2008 at 3:35 pm #691328And we just had another one. From the same epicenter. Bit smaller though.
