Its actually a bush and/or shrub…
We had an “Evergreen bush” outside our window… it was allowed to grow wild so we desided to trim it down, well the inside of it was all dead lookin so we took it to the ground. It did have a lot of green on it before hand. Will it grow back and how long will that take???
Juniper… (thanks purpledragonclaw and barrdwing! I should have known that…I have seen them before!)
Look at all that dead stuff we took out!!!
and it covered in snow…
I am going to go to a “garden” place because I have a few bushes and other plants I have NO idea what they are… I’ll ask them too… 😉

What you took down is dead, it looks like, but the green one next to it could grow where the dead parts used to be, given time and MAYBE some training. I think it could do it on its own; they tend to grow pretty well if left alone. I trim mine once every year, but never if they’re blooming. If you have any other plants you don’t know the species of, would you mind posting pictures? I’m sure everyone would love to help you with plant identification! 🙂
April 17, 2008 at 3:00 am #690624Sweet! Thank You!!!!!! 😀
This bush has little white flowers and its very viney… encluding the roots…. before the flowers it has red berry looking things on it…
Spirea (thanks Emerald for the name!!!)
This does grow into a tree…
Indian Sumac (thank you DragonMistress for the name!!!)
This is a viney like plant… that makes really pretty flowers…
Sweet Pea (thanks Barrdwing for pointing me in the right direction!)…
April 17, 2008 at 3:47 am #690625The plant in the first photo is definitely a juniper. My parents had them growing alongside the driveway for years. The branches on the interior of the bush die, but the outside stays green; as kids we discovered that you could prune out the dead stuff in the middle and have a “cave” with separate “rooms”. Prickly, but lots of fun.
Our junipers would get pruned now and then and always came back quickly. How long it would take for one that was cut back to the ground, I couldn’t say, but water the stump and keep an eye on it–it might recover. :/ Seems to me Dad would get a little aggro on the driveway junipers but it never seemed to faze them.
I don’t recognize the other plants, although I think the one with the pink flowers is in the pea family. But that’s a huge plant family, so it doesn’t help much! 😆
April 17, 2008 at 3:52 am #690626Thanks! I’ll keep on watering it and see what happens! I’ll take plant clippings to coulter gardens and see what they say! 🙂

This is a spirea, not a juniper. Junipers look more like ferns. I think the bush in the first group of pics is a juniper. Or it might be a type of yew.
April 17, 2008 at 1:23 pm #690628Very cool! Thank you!!! It is so nice to know what is planted around your house! The Spirea is down the South side of my house!
Edit: While doing a google image search (on several sites) the purpleish pink flowers are Sweet Peas…
April 17, 2008 at 3:02 pm #690629My grandma used to plant sweetpea all the time. It comes in different colors as well.

April 17, 2008 at 3:31 pm #690630Oops, sorry, Emerald; I was referring to the photo in the very first post. 😳 I should have specified. I didn’t recognize the plant with the white flowers at all–spirea, huh? Good, now I have an image to tag to the name! 🙂
April 17, 2008 at 4:39 pm #690631I have a lot of different stuff growing everywhere…
Lilac’s, Iris’s, periwinkle, roage rose bushes, and other stuff in the back yard…
I had a trumpit vine back there too but I think its dead…
Lilac bushes down the North side of the house…
Spirea down the South side… sweet pea mixed in the spirea and in the back yard as well…
I have a few rose bushes that I planted and a nice hardy plant called Stonecrop. Two lager buckets of day lilies… some bush next to my steps that I have no idea what it is… (I’ll post a picture.. lol)
and two bulb type plants, one is growing randomly in the back yard, it has little purple flowers on it and the other was under some of the spirea that we removed *its right next to the driveway as well and was sratching my car door…* and it looks like real thick grass, no flowers that I have ever seen.
This poor yard (front and back) was WILD when we bought the house last year. We are trying to tame it down and make it look better!

That one is a indian sumac, it grows into a tall skinny tree and blooms with fuzzy red berry clusters, which I have heard you can make tea out of, but have never tied myself. I believe it is in the same family as Hercuule’s Clubs, great for making walking sticks from, nice and straight!
