Well, this is a new one:
Someone want to send this to John?
April 13, 2008 at 3:53 am #689336Wow…that is a new one. 😯
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
April 13, 2008 at 4:44 am #689337Ya know there is a computer program that you can get that can make cross stitch patterns out of damn near anything….
April 13, 2008 at 5:32 am #689338Why oh why is the dragon orange?
April 13, 2008 at 6:50 am #689339If you look at the date on that pattern it was made in 1984, well before the program, which I have somewhere, came out. It looks to me that that is on old book with a dragon and a castle as well.
April 13, 2008 at 12:33 pm #689340What year did Melody release that print? The pattern says it’s from 1983….. 😕
April 13, 2008 at 3:58 pm #689341Wow, very surprising. I know a lot of people use computer programs to make cross stitch patterns out of other peoples’ artwork and sell it nowadays, but this is an actual published magazine, not an individual. Despite the fact that the issue is quite old, it’s still very odd that it seems nobody at the publication asked the pattern maker whether or not her work was original!
Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!

It’s not odd at all. Publishers usually have some sort of contract with artists when this sort of thing happens, that the artist signs, that pretty much says that all content needs to be the artist’s. So, usually (not always, but usually), it’s the artist being dishonest in cases like this. At the end of the day the publisher doesn’t have the time or resources to check each submission and so relies on the artist to be honest and ethical.
Melody’s dragon drawing is quite old, from the 80’s, though only she can provide the date. I’m not sure.
I’ll move this to Ask Melody so she can see it!

Someone want to send this to John? There was a stitchery design publisher that used (stole) several of our print designs in the early ’80’s. We did stop them then. This is probably a left-over from that batch of patterns, but I’ll show it to John. I haven’t seen this dragon pattern used before, so it is possibly from a different company than the one we stopped.
April 14, 2008 at 3:53 pm #689344What do you do in a situation like this? Email the winning bidder? contact the publisher? it is an old publication. thanks
April 14, 2008 at 9:48 pm #689345You can really tell a difference in the art styles between the dragon and the castle.
And to purpledragonclaw, it’s not too hard to change thread colors on a pattern like that. I’ve done it myself when I didn’t like the colors “suggested” by the pattern creator..
April 14, 2008 at 10:00 pm #689346Interesting. Thank you Pegasi!
