Hello my friends,
Does anyone have any experience with removing acrylic from the small details of their PYO’s.
So far I’ve tried 70% alcohol and a tooth brush with limited success.
Would really like to get the detail crevices as clean as possible with damaging the texture. I’ve touched it with a very fine dental pick, but that tends to introduce scribe lines.
Any sure fire homebrews that will not cause damage to the cast?
Thanks!

Good luck.

Perhaps I am being a bit sensitive today, but your comment seems to be saying that my suggestion would damage the piece. Considering I have now stripped down two dragons down to bare gypsum using these two solutions without damaging them, I feel kind of offended and hurt.

April 12, 2008 at 7:43 pm #689138It worked, I did not soak the piece. Just loaded a toothbrush with acetone and scrubbed away.
Cleaned out all the nooks and crannies. Rinsed it with soapy water, and letting it dry (it’s almost 90 degrees today, so it won’t be long). The eyes stayed put, but I was pretty careful on where I applied the solvent.
Thanks Kyrin !
Phoenix, the reason I did not want to add additional paint was due to the issue of detail lost with buildup. I am going to airbrush, so the coats will be fairly thin. Thought it better to retain as much of the original surface detail as possible. Plus I want lighter colors which would require quite a bit of heavy pigment to cover the darker old paint.
It’s a learning curve for me, so I appreciate the suggestions.

I don’t think Phoenix meant anything negative about your comment, but just gave another suggestion to someone who may be too nervous to try your expert method. It’s good to get a lot of different input on things, so the person attempting it can decide which one is right for him/her. Don’t take offense. Eat chocolate. π

That’s it, no chocolate yet today! I knew there was a reason I was feeling sensitive! π
Seriously though, I know Phoenix didn’t mean anything, but word choices do put a spin on things. Which is why I said something, since her choices here made me feel kinda bad without meaning to.

April 13, 2008 at 12:15 am #689144Nope, not saying your method was bad, just offering another method someone had suggested in the past when the question was asked.

I have not hadthe black and white mocha. I’ve never even seen it around here. I’ll have to look for it. I’ve had the dark chocolate mint that was out at Christmas time. That was yummy too!
