This is a blog I posted after watching my husband hold Alyssa for an hour straight just because she wanted to be held, just thought I would share….
“It’s all about me”
Yeah thats a babies motto, everything MUST revolve around them. I’ve become all to aware of this in the past two months. When Alyssa was first born it wasn’t so bad because all she would do is sleep sleep sleep. Now that she is awake most of the day I can’t do anything unless I have her approval. Whenever I try to eat she waits until I sit down with food poised to go into my mouth then “WHAAAAA” she wants to be held or the bears on her swing are not moving or she wants to eat too. If I want to surf the web she will fuss and fuss because she wants to be held. “Hold on a sec sweet pea mommy needs to finish this email then I will pick you up”. NO thats not good enough! You must pick baby up NOW! I’ve made the great mistake of not obeying the demands of baby only to pay for it with an hour or more of crying and pouty face. Pouty face is the worst form of punishment that Alyssa can dish out to poor mommy. She sticks that bottom lip out and scrunches up her face. Little tears start to form in her yes and then to top it all off she gives me the lip tremble. Dear God I can’t stand it when she does it. I feel like the worlds worst mother. Once you do give in to the pouty face and do hold baby you can’t put her down. Oh no you think she is asleep but the split second you put them back in the bassinet she wakes right up and looks at you “WTH do you think you are doing? I didn’t give you permission to lay me down!” Then the pouty face again and the tears until you pick her up and hold her again. No matter how sweaty your arm gets or numb your fingers feel you can’t and I mean CAN’T put her down! I think its hysterical how someone so small can wrap you right around their little finger. I LOVE being the servent to a 10 lbs little girl 🙂April 3, 2008 at 3:26 pm #687072…and the servitude never ends 🙂
Here I am typing one-handed while nursing Ryan and last night my 4-yr old daughter climbed into bed and woke me saying, “Mommy, I just need to play with your hair.” This morning, both kids cried when Daddy went to work and he’s looking at me like, “What do I do?” “GO.”
Yep…they own you forever, and it’s a good thing 🙂April 3, 2008 at 5:50 pm #687073Lol half the time when I type on here its one handed (like right now). If I can prop Alyssa on the boppy sometimes I can get away with two hand typing but she gets mad when I reach over her.

Exactly. Ryan doesn’t even like me one-hand typing and will constantly put his foot on my arm and try to bring it down. As Kiera got older she didn’t like me on the computer at all and Ryan is starting to get to that way too. “Nothing that drags your attention away from me!”
April 3, 2008 at 10:55 pm #687075LOL! I too would type over Karli with her snuggled/balanced on her Boppy. She wasn’t too wild about it either.
The “I want to be held now!” thing doesn’t go away, Karli is nearly 2, and she still does that, but then 2 secs later she wants down, then wants up again. The turkey.

April 3, 2008 at 11:57 pm #687076Have you gals thought about getting a sling or a snugglie? Natalie was a real snuggler and always wanted to be with me. i used an over the shoulder baby holder with her as well as a great snuggli and it made both of us happier!! It gets easier when they start to sit up on thier own….You may want to borrow a play mat and see if that works for five minutes or so….
Great site on baby wearing:

We had a playmat similar to the one above, but it had a bunch of plastic chain things on it with detachable chewy toys. I liked it alot because we could change out the toys…
April 4, 2008 at 12:14 am #687077I had posted on here about babywearing but didn’t get much of a bite. I’m going to make my own ring sling and see how that works. I already have the fabric I’m just waiting on my rings to get here so I can make it. I think the only how Alyssa will be happy is if Daddy wears her in a sling. She just loves to cuddle up with Daddy, it makes me jealous some times lol.
April 4, 2008 at 3:12 am #687078LOL!!! I had to smile reading this, it’s way too true, and if you hate that pouty face now, wait until they’re crawling and you really have to start telling them “No”!! Khym will sit back at you and you see it coming from a mile away!! The 2 reasons I can get away with not feeling bad is because I know I have to, and umm well I see My uncle, and his little cousins!! We call that “Leonard’s Lip” in my family, well unless he’s the one saying it and then it’s “The Family Lip”!! So I’m just laughing to hard at seeing my little boy do the same thing!! 😀 It also doesn’t help that you put pictures of the 3 boys next to each other and it’s hard to tell the difference. 😯
April 4, 2008 at 6:06 am #687079Oh! I know pouty face!! My Nephew (not really, but my best friend of 15 years +’s son) the younger one Andrew does that! Shaleen call it Auntie Shelly Face, cause Andrew knows that I will snuzz him and let him sleep on me, and play with my hair etc.. forever. I love my little Andrew. And he’s got my number! I wanna do the baby sling too, if I can ever get pregnant!!!
April 4, 2008 at 7:46 am #687080Khym likes the snugly out for walks but not in the house. He also doesn’t mind being in the Bouncy seat for a bit, as long as the “Toy” is going, but Gods Forbid you turn on it’s vibrate Function!!!! 😯 😯 😯 And the Swing just isn’t good enough for him, so it’s current use is as a Blanket holder.
