I got it from my dad as an email FW and based on the ppl he sent it to and the groups of ppl he got it from, I have to respect it’s validity. If you read carefully, this is a very possible thing to do. And no, this isnt the “Dont buy gas on this one day” campaign. It’s something totally different and it makes sense to me for potential. I even emailed some of you on it to include in the 10 ppl I was supposed to send to (though I sent to many more than 10 because I believe in it). Heres the info, do with it as you will:
THIS IS NOT THE ‘DON’T BUY’ GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the ‘don’t buy gas on a certain day’ campaign that was going around last April or May!It’s worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to ‘hurt’ ourselves by refusing to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you’re probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.64 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 – $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace… not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas.
But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It’s really simple to do! Now, don’t wimp out on me at this point…keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) … and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)… and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it….. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That’s all!
(If you don’t understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people… We’re not all mathematicians. But I am. So trust me on this one).
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within 1 day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I’ll bet you didn’t think you and I had that much potential, did you!
Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.
Keep it going!

March 30, 2008 at 7:50 am #684734I only buy Chevron so I’m already doing it
March 30, 2008 at 2:35 pm #684735I vary which gas stations I go to, usually the one that has the lowest prices. I’ve actually found one or two stations that will be lower than the AAFES stations on base and they are typically lower than the gas stations just off base.
AAFES stands for Army and Air Force Exchange System and is something you will only find on an Army or Air Force base. I’m pretty sure the Navy and Marines have something similar.
March 30, 2008 at 6:17 pm #684736sorry folks this is just a hoax that has been flying around for the past 5 or so years with slight changes over them , here is the link if you google it you will find hundreds more of this hoax
March 30, 2008 at 7:29 pm #684737Unfortunately it is a ‘hoax’ sort of thing. It’s good in theory but as the article linked to above says, it might only increase the costs, not decrease them. The cost of fuel is reflected by many things, but we have to understand that it is not an unlimited resource. Like any limited resource, as more people use it in ever greater quantities and the natural sources are slowly depleted… the cost will go up. Boycotting any single distributor or company of a resource won’t have an effect of driving the price down. Also if you research it, a huge percentage of the money you feed to the pump at the gas station are ever increasing fees, taxes, and other ‘hidden’ costs tacked onto the gasoline.
If you really want to make an impact, research what ways you personally can conserve gas and other energy. Any place in your life that you can waste less will help, because nearly every product you buy and use has to be shipped to your location (which means burning a petroleum product such as gasoline), from groceries, to tissues, to copier paper. It’ll help your pocketbook in addition to help the environment. π

My art: featherdust.comMarch 31, 2008 at 6:33 am #684738I got something similar in an e-mail before.
Just for all you guys’ comfort, next time you cuss at the gas price, you can think that over here, we’re paying $7.25 a gallon. πMarch 31, 2008 at 7:14 am #684739Greater Basilisk wrote:Just for all you guys’ comfort, next time you cuss at the gas price, you can think that over here, we’re paying $7.25 a gallon. π
No kidding, that’s why I’m not complaining too much. I haven’t checked local prices lately, but I know it’s over $2… and they sell by the LITER, while I’m paying $3.19 per GALLON on base. The cost is still pretty dang high compared to what it used to be, but when it only costs me $20 every two weeks to fill my little car, I’m doin’ alright.
March 31, 2008 at 11:24 am #684740Yeah, that’s why I drive a motorcycle. I get 250 km to a tank, or about 43 miles to a gallon.

Kids, karate weapons, pets to the vet, hauling hay to horses. Hmm don’t think I’ll be doing much on a motorcycle Bask π
However if the financing comes through we will be buying a car this week so we’ll be driving something with better gas milage. We all ready do everything else we can to save money π

We-ell, I didn’t say it was for everybody. π (When it comes to hauling and really bad weather, I have to borrow a car too.) May I ask what kind of car you’re getting?
March 31, 2008 at 3:02 pm #684743I saw that about a year ago or more and haven’t bought at mobil since then and didn’t before anyhow since we don’t have a whole lot of them in this area anyways. Neither has any of my family or friends I’ve told and that e-mail should have went pretty world wide. I guess it’s not working π
March 31, 2008 at 4:55 pm #684744Lowering gas prices are not that simple, really.
The American dollar is very weak right now and oil is a at a record 100+ dollars per barrel. This is why we have $3.50 per gallon gasoline and it may yet go higher.
Start pushing for alternative fuel sources. Buy hybrid cars or cars that run on something like ethanol, if you can get ethanol nearby. There is also a kit out there where you can convert your car to run on used fryer grease, but that requires time and a bit of chemistry knowledge.
Start writing your legislative representatives at both a state and federal level. Offer suggestions, push for those alternative fuel sources so they’ll know where to put their funding.
Brazil is entirely energy independent. There’s absolutely no reason we cannot be either.
March 31, 2008 at 5:17 pm #684745Regarding hybrid cars: I can personally vouch for the Prius. It looks silly, but it’s a much better car overall than I expected it to be. π And you really can get 46-50 mpg in the thing, too, although it probably helps that I live in a fairly flat part of the state! π
