I’ve been noticing a lot of auctions being set up for ridiculously large starting bids. Here is a sample:
Are people smoking something or is it just me? While I respect that everyone can ask what they wish, sometimes I wonder if they are on the same planet. Ideas?
March 24, 2008 at 2:55 pm #494815March 24, 2008 at 3:08 pm #681668I was wondering when someone would mention this fellow. Did you catch the price on their Peacock Lap Dragon? While not as bad as the pegasus male it’s still way up there (nearly twice the average selling price).
March 24, 2008 at 3:09 pm #681669Yes, I had seen that one. I thought it was high, but since I have been out of the Windstone loop, I thought perhaps they had really gone up in price if more people were looking for them.
March 24, 2008 at 3:17 pm #681670Nope. Its not normal… just the occasional reeeeally high starting bid. I think its just people who are uninformed about what they usually go for. Or maybe they are just not willing to sell them for any less.
March 24, 2008 at 3:31 pm #681671Or possibly they really don’t want to sell, but they need some cash and if some crazy person wants to pay them that much then they’ll take it. 😉 (Given listing fees, that doesn’t make any sense, but sometimes you have to wonder if that’s what is going through the seller’s mind.) Either that or they’re cold-heartedly trolling for suckers. 🙄
March 24, 2008 at 3:38 pm #681672Well, there are a few ways to look at it.
They may not sell at those prices, in which case the seller learns a lesson of ‘hey, price is too high’, and they end up eating their listing fees.
The fact that so many Windstones do sell at a high dollar amount is encouraging to many.
If they do sell, well- power to the seller, and power to the buyer for getting a piece they must obviously want very badly!
It’s also good news that Windstone retain (and often increase) in their value. Though I know it’s a bit daunting when trying to find rare pieces…Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com
My art: featherdust.comMarch 24, 2008 at 3:43 pm #681673I saw that, I let her know about ravnhearts’ website so that she could better price them.
March 24, 2008 at 4:12 pm #681674My jaw dropped when I saw what they were asking for that piece, especially since there is another pegasus, the same statue, is on ebay right now with a high bid of $16. Hmmm, $16 vs. $595…
March 24, 2008 at 4:52 pm #681675There is also a seller in Canada who wants a lot for their current, in regular production items. I think they wanted $70 for Tiger and Puffin together. They are still current and sell for $23 each ($46 together). I sent her a message to let her know, but never got a response. Now I see she’s listed more current production items, really overpriced.
It may just be that that’s what she paid for them. If, like Lupin says, the prices in Canada are a lot higher.

Actualy in store in Canada they sell for $40 each and in the Windstone store they are now $27 each so $70 for both for us Canadian it is good.

Ah, good to know. You’re right. They are $27 each, oops. I’m still on old pricing, mentally.

I sometime do that to. I forget that they sell for more now. 😆
March 24, 2008 at 7:25 pm #681679I’ve encountered sellers like that when I was perusing for something. For instance, I found a Steiff (German-made plush) that I REALLY wanted, but what they wanted it for was about $20 more than what I could have bought it for retailed! So I waited a few months, and sure enough, they knocked $40 off the price and then I bought it! Some sellers learn after watching their item sit on e-bay for weeks at a time with no bids. 😛
March 24, 2008 at 11:03 pm #681680How about what the Grand Unicorn and Pegasus family lot just sold for? A grand total of $510.00.
The Unicorn is $145 new leaving $375 for the Pegasus family, um, wow!
I sure hope for their sake they all get their in one piece.
