The other day I saw the first robin in the area so I told my husband its spring. He looked at me like I was crazy and said its not spring yet. Ever since I was little I always thought the first robin to return signaled spring. Does anyone else have there own signal of the return of spring?

My mom was exactly the same – first time she saw a robin, didn’t matter when. She used to have a contest with the neighbor across the street to see who saw one first.

For me it’s either a robin or seeing a crocus.

March 1st for me…I dunno why, but to me, March-April-May is spring. December-January-Febuary is winter. 😀 Usually around March 1st the flowers start popping up.

I have always thought about March 22 was the start of Spring

I’ve always had a hard time with the calendar definitions of when the seasons start, because the parts of California that I’ve lived in have always been warm. I tend to think of spring starting when all of the ornamental plums burst into bloom, which they’re doing right now. I saw a robin last weekend. And although I didn’t plant any crocus, the hyacinths have been blooming like crazy. But I’m sure that if I lived someplace that had colder winters, I’d be naming a later onset for spring. I think spring’s arrival is kind of a function of local climate.

For me it’s whenever I step outside and go, “Okay, Spring is here.” I had one of those days yesterday, but today it’s freezing, so…
                It’s a work in progress. 🙂

I grew up in MI and we were always taught that seeing the first Robin meant it was Spring. Now I live in GA and it seems like Spring in Feb when it Starts to look green and the Daffodils bloom. 😆

When the snow is finally gone and I can go out without gloves and ear muffs. Which will not be anytime soon form the looks of things… 😕

It is the sighting of the first robin here, too. *goes to the door and looks for one* No luck. 🙁 😆

We get some robins that stay year round, in some areas. Don’t know why- a small handful just doesn’t migrate. So I can’t use that.

Usually, it’s spring here when the crocus and daffodils are starting to bloom. A while to go, yet!

I usually celebrate spring on the calendar day: you know, going around saying “Happy Spring!” But I usually don’t consider it spring until the snow starts going away, grass appears, and trees start to bud, which will be more like April in Minnesota.

Ironically, I’m on Spring Break now from the U. It’s pretty cold, and I almost slipped on some ice earlier. 😛
