So here’s my new “project idea” I wanted to see what everyone thought about it. My boyfriend is really big into Magic the Gathering. I think obsessed it the better word to describe it. Usually I paint while he makes decks and plays with his friends at the house. I’ve been trying to get him to paint a Windstone with me cause he paints lead miniatures too sometimes.
He showed me some cards he wants me to help him paint KiRins to match. Has anyone ever thought of painting these???
The Skyfire Kirin – I’m actually anxious to paint this one, LOL! Bright colors of course.

Not to be a spoilsport, but would there be a copyright problem with painting something like that?
It’s a cool idea though. I’m especially fond of the celestial Kirin.
Interesting! I didn’t know those existed (they are newer cards… All of my cards are older). Hehe… still have some of the large boxes of Ice Age unopened. 😆

I don’t think there is a problem with using the paint schemes as inspiration to paint them because no matter how wonderful Melody’s KiRins are they don’t much look like the artwork of these KiRins… If I was going to alter the sculpture to look like the artists work or sell them as Magic the Gathering statues or something that defiantly wouldn’t be cool. I’ll have to check on that.
Shaun says they are from the Saviours of Kamigawa set. Not very new, but much newer then Ice Age. He looked it up and said they came out in 2005.

Yeah, the newest cards I have are from 2003 I think 😯 I think I have a few 4th editions and revised running around too. Definitely some Homelands, Unglued (love this set!), etc.
My dad bought them ages ago. I think I have like 4 or 5 boxes. I think he was looking at $100 a piece for the boxes. I’ll check tomorrow (they’re packed in a box). PM if he wants me to bring any to the Con with me 😉

That sounds like a neat idea. I have older Magic Cards as well. I think the last time I played was in 2005. 😀
I never played Magic… but I most certainly collected the cards. I ended up with a lot of rare ones (so I’m told from players). They’re all still around here somewhere…
And honestly, I don’t think there would be any copyright infringement… taking color schemes from something?
