Hi Melody 🙂 I have a comment and a question. Maybe this came up before in all the Ki-Rin discussion around here, but if it did I must not have seen it.
I was just looking through your Elfwood gallery and had a thought. In there is a sketch page of concepts for the Ki-Rin sculpts, and on it is a sketch of a baby Ki-Rin curled up. It got me thinking that there was a curled up baby on the “laundry Ki-Rins” sketch as well.
My comment: that’s a super cute pose for a baby Ki-Rin 🙂 I just love your pencil sketches.
My question: did you have plans to do a curled up baby to go with the sitting baby at one point in time? If so, what made you decide not to add a second baby to the family?
Take your time answering–I know you’re very busy!
February 21, 2008 at 5:01 am #668060That would be so cute! 😮 I missed out on the Ki-rins, being a relatively new collector…I guess I could get one off ebay, but…I don’t trust it much, and older pieces cost so much on there. It’d be nice to see the Ki-Rin family (+1!) being produced again, in a different color, of course! I’ve wanted one ever since I watched/read The Twelve Kingdoms! =D Preferably one that looks like Keiki! e.e Heehee!

Take your time answering–I know you’re very busy!Yes, I did a sculpture of that curled kirin, but it was a little tiny Pebble-sized one, not the same size as the baby kirin. I was planning to have it be cast in pewter. We never did get around to doing a pewter line, so it got shelved. I often do revive old sculpture, so that curled kirin may well show up someday as a regular piece.
February 22, 2008 at 6:47 pm #668063Oh yes, please Melody! That would be so adorable.
February 22, 2008 at 6:49 pm #668064Yes, it would. The Ki-Rin family would look even more complete with a second baby.
February 22, 2008 at 7:51 pm #668065uhhh… I’d love another baby Kirin too, but you could always stick a pebble-sized one in with the pebble cats… then you’d only need one more kitty, and we’d get cuteness all around 😉

It’s just more fun that way! *this coming from me who sometimes rolls her eyes at the twins antics and repeats over and over “we did this on purpose, we did this on purpose……” 😆 * The baby kirins are adorable and a curled up one would be perfect!

February 23, 2008 at 2:37 am #668068That might be a cool way to commemorate a new Ki-Rin production color, to introduce a new curled baby at the same time 🙂 There could be some made in the new color and some in the previous color, so all the old families can have one to match as well.
Just a thought.
February 23, 2008 at 2:38 am #668069good thought… 😉
February 23, 2008 at 2:55 am #668070Megani that’s a great idea!!! I do so love the kirin!!! 😀
February 23, 2008 at 4:01 am #668071I would think the new one would look different than the current one. Updated if you will.
I like the old Windstone line, but I LOVE the new! -
