        I was just listening to the recording of the radio show and I just had to mention I practically fell off my chair when you said some PYO paint jobs warmed “the cochels of your heart” Okay, can I just asked if that’s Denis Leary influenced? I know, totally random, haha! I just thought it would have been funny cause that’s where I get it from.

          Meaning: Causes a pleasant feeling of a sentimental kind, is comforting, is reassuring.
          Origin: Not clear. The shell of the cockle, a mussel, is somewhat heart-shaped, but that may not have produced this phrase.
          Entry from Webster’s Second Unabridged, 1934: “Cockles of the heart: A phrase (in which ‘cockles’ is of uncertain meaning) denoting the depths of the heart; as, to ‘delight, rejoice, cheer, warm,’ etc., ‘the cockles of one’s heart’
          I have no idea where that expression really came from. I can picture saying that with an Irish accent.

            My mom uses that expression sometimes. Come to think of it, her dad was Irish . . . . 🙂
