Hello forum members,
I’ve read many of your new/old posts, but never posted, til now.
I was curious, so thought I’d ask the maker herself.
After looking at many pictures, I noticed two different tails on the Grand Unicorns. The more recent ones, including the Black Grands of course, appear to be fluffier. The original Grand Unicorn (the one I have) appears to have an opening in it as it links back to the rear leg and the newer one appears to be more full with no opening through the tail.
Might I ask what occured that prompted the change?
Also, if I do manage your ear, will you be reproducing the Black Pegasus Mother and laying baby at all? I’d include your now “out of stock” hatching Pegasus, but it was I made it that way.
Thanks!

PS My vote on your Grand Pegasus was registered … make many, many, many of them so we can all share the glory!

February 12, 2008 at 10:20 pm #665237Mine has a separation in the tail before it connects to the hock. If you can manage comparison pix, that would be cool! Gotta post a few more times before youre able (about 5 I think).

PS My vote on your Grand Pegasus was registered … make many, many, many of them so we can all share the glory!I am trying to remember.. I did a couple versions of the grand unicorn, with different tails and body proportions. If you have an old catalog with a picture of the Grand unicorn in it and compare that to a production one, you can probably see the differences. The photo sample was an older version of the sculpture. I didn’t remember that we had actually produced different versions though. Have you got a pic?
The sculpture was changed around to make it easier to cast. I removed some of the tail at one point because it looked too large and heavy to me. Then may of added it back because the large tail made the piece easier to cast..
I am not sure about the black peg family, I don’t know if we will continue to make more of those or not.February 13, 2008 at 6:40 am #665239So you do make changes to a sculpture that’s in production, Melody?

Yes. If we find out that something doesn’t work, I change it.
February 13, 2008 at 10:36 pm #665241OMG! I never noticed that. Here is the pic of my two. I have never noticed the difference in the tails until now! I’m usually pretty observant, but dang! Good catch!
The white one was one of the first produced I believe. So does anyone have a current white grand? What type of tail does it have?
Here is a pic I found on the web. It has the new tail style as well:
February 13, 2008 at 11:09 pm #665242Mine had the same tail as your white. I got mine from a store but, I don’t know when they got him.
February 13, 2008 at 11:22 pm #665243My white grand has the new tail, like the black grand. I’ve had him for quite a while, so I wonder how many were made with the other tail? 😕

February 14, 2008 at 12:49 am #665245The fat tail is the older style.
Also notice that the fat tailed ones have waists that are slightly more slender. I also changed the length of the mane where it runs down the back. The original had it long, the next one was short , then I may of made it long again. I couldn’t decide if that helped with casting or not… I fattened the waist up a bit on the thin tail version to make removing the mold easier. I guess these black ones,(and maybe a few white ones) were painted very early in the “run”. I didn’t realize they were the old style.Learn something evry day! (and I forget it the next)February 14, 2008 at 12:52 am #665246Oh wow..you know…I’ve never really noticed the grand unicorn before! It’s really a feat to design for one piece molds….wow…
February 14, 2008 at 12:55 am #665247Ah….so my grand with the solid, fatter tail is actually the older style. That makes sense, since I got him soon after they were released. 🙂
