KC and I are in the middle of painting the mural, and we were wondering if there is a type of varnish to protect the mural? We are using Apple Barrel Acrylic paints for it. Also, I will post pictures when it’s finished! Right now I have taken two “progress” pictures!

You don’t want a protector that won’t take paint when your teenager (heaven forbid! 😉 )wants to paint the room or you want to sell the house! 😀
January 27, 2008 at 2:45 pm #659740When I use acrylics over the latex, I put the same satin paint-on I use on my PYOs: the folkart waterbase varnish. I use folkart acrylics on the latex-painted walls, and the only time the acrylic did a weird thing was when I used another brand: the varnish made it crack.
You can paint right over top of that without any problems.

Do you know where I can find folkart waterbase varnish?

I buy mine at Micheals. They come in the bigger bottle, too! But they’re not with the paints; they’re in the varnish area (yeah, shocking, huh?)

Awesome thanks!
I started thinking about using varnish when I noticed that the paint came off easily with water. 😀January 29, 2008 at 3:44 am #659744Okay, now stop teasing us and post pictures of the mural!

January 29, 2008 at 1:34 pm #659745Are you sure you want to see it? Positive? Just kidding….hehe-ok, here it is so far:
I had another picture which showed what it looked like prior to this one, but I can’t seem to post it.
What do you think about it so far? We still have a long way to go!
January 29, 2008 at 7:53 pm #659746It’s very pretty so far! What else are you going to be including when it is done?

Thanks! I added more pictures to try to show more of the room. Prior to this, the entire room was white, so it is very different!!
The dark ocean part that you see is going to be an underwater view. I want to try to paint coral, fish, a dolphin or two, and maybe a shark (but in the shadows). The top view of the ocean isn’t finished because we are going to paint some waves, and the land will have some shores which will be painted a tan color, and then of course we will add the ark along with some animals. To finish it off, we will paint a dove which will be flying over the rainbow. PHEW!! I think that’s all!
When all is said and done, Kc and I will have to repaint sections of the sky because there are some paint drops on it now…oops!
Kc also mentioned the idea of painting a couple of clouds in the shape of animals. I think it’s a really cute idea, but then he changed his mind…so we’ll see!
Do you have any suggestions? I am mostly worried about how the coral will turn out. 😉

January 30, 2008 at 2:04 pm #659749I like! Polycrylic is a good product, it dries clear and you can brush it on over your mural. I’ve used it before and really like it. Plus walmart usually carries it, it is with the varnish, but it is an acrylic base. Make sure you get Polycrylic (acrylic base) and not Polyurethane (for wood projects). 🙂
January 30, 2008 at 5:27 pm #659750It’s huge 😯
I love the colors; can’t wait to see the final product!
