This is my first time actually posting here, so a tiny hello to all of you veteran PYO peeps. ^_^’ M’actually hoping you all might be able to help me, since you’ve more experience than I do with PYOs.
I’ve been collecting the different colors of the oriental windstone dragons for some time, and finally found a young peacock oriental in a very lucky browse through an ‘antique’ shop. I was rather shocked when I found a small table containing quite a few windstones. Most of which were in horrible shape =(. I scooped the few up that looked liked they could be saved, including the little oriental.
I was actually in the process of moving at the time, and had to pack the dragons away with the rest of the collection before I could really do much with them. The move seemed to go alright too.. until I was in my new apartment and was beginning to unpack my things.
The movers were not very gentle with some of my boxes, and I simply didn’t have the room in my little car to pack every single breakable item from my previous apartment. To try and make this longgg story short, a few of my windstones were broken during the move. Included were my Jade Oriental Sun and my Gold Old Warrior. The little Oriental I picked up from the ‘antique’ store was also broken, in half. *sighs*
I don’t think either of the big dragons can be saved. The Jade Sun had his head broken from his body, and it’s lying in several different pieces on my art desk at the moment. My Old Warrior also had his head broken off, as well as his wings. I guess my concern is the little Oriental. From my previous experience with old Breyers and other statues, I’ve been able to glue him back together. A lot of paint was chipped away from the break, and I had to fill in the other cracks caused from the injury. I don’t think I could match the original paintjob, not by any means.
Sorry. So very long-winded of me. *flails* -_-
Should I do anything with this little Oriental? Should I repaint him and give him a makeover, or can I actually do that? And if I can, how do I handle the glossy finish he has? I was thinking a matte spray initially so paint will stick to him, but I’m not sure. I’ve not handled Windstones in this fashion at all.
I would appreciate any kind of help you all might be able to lend me. Also.. if you think anything can be done about my two larger dragons, I’m open to suggestions. They were special gifts I would rather not throw away without considering all my options. =/

January 8, 2008 at 6:05 pm #654405First off so sorry about your Windstones that got broken in the move. There is hope for your Jade Sun, Gold Old Warrior and Young Oriental Dragon. Several members of the forum excel at repair and restoration of Windstones. Kyrin and Zelda are two I know of. Kyrin repaired my Black Male Griffin’s feet (you can see examples of her repairs in this thread. I’d recommend sending a PM to one of them to see if they can help you out.
January 8, 2008 at 6:37 pm #654406Ohh I’m sorry to hear about your windstones…if you want to attempt to fix them yourself I would ask Kyrin for advice but she also could probably restore them all for you…she does amaizing work 😀
I had my black male griffin restored by her and she did an amaizing job…she matched the paint perfectly and he looks brand new.. 😆Marzena
January 8, 2008 at 6:42 pm #654407DON’T THROW THEM OUT. Somebody can restore them!
January 8, 2008 at 6:54 pm #654408Hello and welcome, Aetharia. I’m glad you came here for help. Kyrin is a whiz when it comes to repairs! There is hope for all three of them! 😀 I’m sorry your movers were so careless. 😡
January 8, 2008 at 7:36 pm #654409Welcome Aetharia! Drat those movers 😡 but the good news is, your Windstones can most likely be saved. Kyrin is amazing! 😀 Keep all the little pieces, take some photos, and shoot her a PM. (You’ll have to post 5 times to be able to post photos on the Forum, but I don’t know if that limit applies to putting photo links in a PM.) Kyrin can sculpt missing bits or even large pieces, match original paint, and even mimic the original finish. She’s done some fairly extensive repairs; folks can put you in touch with the threads regarding these (I don’t have them bookmarked 😳 ).
I’d advise against repainting anyone into a different color. As tempting as it is, it’s something Windstone really discourages. Much better to restore these: you’ve found some rather rare pieces in those Orientals. 🙂 Best of luck!
January 8, 2008 at 7:36 pm #654410And if you don’t want to get them repaired, someone here will more than probably interested in buying them. Just post pictures when you can.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I host the feedback lists, which are maintained by drag0nfeathers.
http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmJanuary 8, 2008 at 7:56 pm #654411I think I will be contacting the company that helped me with my move, as I am -extremely- angry now.
While box-diving to find my digital camera, I stopped myself and decided I should unpack the rest of my breakables, which included three more boxes of windstones. Two of the boxes were unharmed, but not the last. My Flion and my White Emperor are also damaged. The Flion has wing damage, and my Emperor lost part of his face and his wings have been completely broken off. The rest of my white set seems to be alright.. but.. *twitches*
This is -rediculous-. Heads are going to -roll- for this! -_-

That is HORRIBLE….I would be in tears if I were you…but I can kinda relate to how you are feeling, I think most of us on here has somethng broken during shipping at one point or another…I realize that it’s not the same…but I would ask the moving company to cover all of the costs to get all of the pieces Restored.. 🙂

January 8, 2008 at 8:03 pm #654413Ask them for repair costs….and since you won’t be paying it, if you wish I will give you actual repair prices for each, and then include what we think shipping would be to and from and go from there, but I think at this point they owe you a minimum of $350.
And a maximum of quite a bit more, since some of these guys are still available and can be replaced completely.
Though on the orientals and flion that is not the case.
Let me know what they say, and we’ll go from there. But I’ve repaired the flion before, mine was similarly damaged when I got him.
Overall all is not lost…just frustrating and disappointing, I know.
Hang in there, and let me know what is decided.
