So today, the postman knocked on my door and he had a package for me, hurray! I knew it was the Peacock Young Dragon that I’d bought from Dracomancer 😀 Unfortunately, it seems that Customs felt the need to open and verify the contents and somehow the box arrived at my door not only with the top re-taped, but also a top corner was crushed and the box flap on that side had ripped at the halfway point to the degree that it had pulled away from the tape supposed to keep it closed. The resulting hole was big enough to stick my hand into!
I remarked on this to the postman, who told me that no one who works at Customs cares about anyone’s packages, and we ageed what a shame that was. But then, he mentioned he had something for me to sign, and instead of handing me the box or placing it at his feet, he just DROPPED IT from waist height until it hit the ground!! The box clearly said FRAGILE!! And when I yelled “Whoa!!” he made NO COMMENT OR QUESTION TO DOING SO! @_@!!!
Stunned, I looked at what he wanted me to sign and Customs had decided that it wasn’t enough to wreck my package’s box, they also had to charge me to accept my also clearly marked “Gift” package. So I basically paid them to open my package and crappily repackage it.
Thank god Dracomancer double-boxed it and had lots of peanuts!! The dragon does not seem to have suffered from the lackluster treatment LOL

It’s a nigtmare! It took me 5 months of working with people at my post office, in Denver, and in Illinois as well as a two page letter detailing all of my attempts to the claims office in Denver to get the post office to merely send my damage report to the original post office from which the item was sent. I’m still waiting for my money, and they broke the item back in May.

Obviously there is a huge flaw to the system of claims, since pretty much most people don’t bother to get what they deserve because they know it’ll be this months-long hassle! LOL

If I had known how painful it was going to be, I would’ve glued the item back together. However, about two months into the process they lost track of the item, so I can’t get it back. I had to be a real pain to get them to do anything.
December 18, 2007 at 6:21 am #648136Thank goodness nothing happened to the dragon, sunhawk. 😯
December 18, 2007 at 6:40 am #648137I really wish there was a way for everyone to boycott the po. 🙁
December 18, 2007 at 6:41 am #648138Use UPS or DHL…
December 18, 2007 at 1:36 pm #648139Whether you mark the package as “gift” or not, if you have a value of more than 10$ on it, chances are you’ll have to pay duties… but not all the time! I’ve given up trying to understand. I mean, whatever I order from Windstone isn’t marked as gift, there’s a value, but sometimes I pay duties, sometimes I don’t. Whaaaaatever.
As for the checking the packages, Customs did check once, but it was the em-pea male dragon. Since he came with his box and inserts, they didn’t screw up when putting him back together.
I’d would have like to see their faces when they opened it up 😆
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmDecember 18, 2007 at 3:34 pm #648140😯 😯 😯 I had a postman come up swinging a package casually at his side (it was a small box) but it was labelled “live animal” so I was pretty upset my bearded dragon got swung around, and who knows what else, on her way home. 👿

Dont know about international shipping to you with them but the brokerage fees from them to Canada are ove r1/3 the cost of the item, my last shipment I got through them was the dragons I ordered when peacock was retired. They cost me about $400, shipping was around 60, and it was 130 for brokerage fees when I picked them up, then they tried to call me and tell me I owed them even more on top of that, so I will NEVER use UPS again, if something I am interested in says UPS and they are unwilling ship another way I dont bid.
December 18, 2007 at 5:47 pm #648142I don’t think any of the shippers are very careful with anything whether its USPS, UPS, etc. You should have seen what USPS did to one white emperor and UPS did to a second one I won on ebay. But I have to say both of them handled the insurance claim well. A little slow but at least I got my money back.

I don’t know what DHL is @_@
But I do know that I remember a story I heard from someone who visited a UPS warehouse and the way the employees were just tossing around every box (even the ones marked fragile) was deeply disturbing >_<;; So really, why pay more for exactly the same kind of crappy service? heh heh

Yeah I don’t understand it either, I mean the gold male dragon I got from Ski didn’t have duty to pay and it came from across the pond! SO CONFUSING @_@;;
December 18, 2007 at 6:44 pm #648145You’ve all seen the destruction of my poor gryphon that was nicely repaired by Kyrin.
Yesterday I had to pick up a package at the Post Office. Customs charged me over 20% of the listed value. And the way the guy at the counter was flipping the box this way and that way to get at the way bills, my head was about to explode. 👿 Thank god for the great shipping people at Windstone.
