I just found out that my friends girlfriend died. I used to work with him at another firehouse but haven’t talked to him in a few months. I got an email from my old lieutenant that he was working a call back night shift and when he came home in the morning she was in bed passed away. It was unexpected and I just couldn’t imagine coming home to something like that. The viewing is Sunday but since I didn’t know his girlfriend I don’t think it would be right for me to go.

That is really sad. What a horrible thing to come home to. But I’m sure if you went on Sunday it would mean a lot to your friend. I’ve always thought wakes and funerals were more for the living than the deceased.

I agree, you should go, your friend needs the love and support of his friends, and he isn’t going to have as many folks there for him as you think. Most people will be focused on her family and he will be isolated and alone. Go, comfort him as well as you can and be there for him.

I’m sorry this happened to him, especially this time of year, what an awful thing.

This happened to a friend of mine almost 6 years ago now, she came home from a business trip and found her boyfriend passed away. It was awful, worst part, this was the second loved one where she was the one to find them. Cause of death was natural causes, his heart gave out, but he was only 38.

It’s hard to go through a sudden loss, hell its hard when you know its coming, but somehow worse when it broadsides you. It doesn’t feel real for weeks, the boyfriend of my friend happened to be one of my best friends in the world, so when he died so suddenly, it was really hard to cope. It just didn’t seem real to me, even at the funeral, it still felt like it was some kind of hoax.

Your friend is going to be in shock for awhile, and this isn’t going to be an easy time, he needs all the love he can get.

What happened, why did she die, if you don’t mind telling us?

I don’t know how it happened yet. From what I did find out she had some type of bleeding disorder but didn’t want to go to the doctor about it. He said he talked to her around 11pm but when he came home she was gone. They were together for 12 years.

Sounds like a possible ulcer. We lost my uncle Gary to that 3 years ago, he didn’t think it was serious, next thing you know, he bled out and we lost him. My Aunt was devastated, he was the love of her life, they’d only been together about 7 years.

Scary thing is, most of us don’t view an ulcer as life threatening, but it can be. But it’s such a common ailment, we don’t take it seriously. My uncle didn’t want to rack up a big hospital bill since they had no insurance. I’d rather he was still here and owed a bunch of money though. It wasn’t worth it.

I’m sorry, too. *hugs* Go to the funeral if you want to. I’m sure your friend will appreciate the effort.

Go to the viewing. It doesn’t matter that you did not know her. You go for your friend.

I agree. The funeral is for your friend. You should go and be there for him. I’m sure he’d appreciate it.

Please go the the viewing, your friend will need you and Kyrin is right- more focus will go to her family than to him and he needs someone to be his rock right now because that suddenness is a hard one to take.
