Southern california is on fire…It’s all over the place and spreading fast. The humidity is pretty much at 0 most places down here, and the winds are very very strong…
We live in Temecula, which is between L.A. and San Diego. There are major fires in both of those big cities…what information we can find says that there’s no iminant danger to us, but our major freeway is closed only two exits down from us…I’m pretty darn nervous. Luckily, none of our friends or family are in danger either, though my roomate’s family has been evacuated…
I’m walking around the house looking at my windstones and just shaking my head…we can certainly get ourselves and our animals out without a problem, and that’s what’s really important…but gosh, my windstones!! We have a few nice things of value in the house, but none are small enough to be savable – except my sculptures. But of course, I could only take a few…
Do you guys think I should start packing some up and sticking them in the car in case we have to evacuate???

October 23, 2007 at 12:02 am #628603Having grown up in fire country, it can never hurt to be prepared. Wind driven fire can move VERY quickly! Keep the news on at all times and keep track of the wind direction. Things can change in no time. I have family in Hemet and Ramona. I hope you stay safe!!
October 23, 2007 at 12:07 am #628604Honestly, your last sentence said what I was going to suggest. I know it’s not good to feed fear and anxiety however, it’s also good to be prepared.
Packing up the Windstones and putting them in the car in case you need to evacuate will not only give you something to do to alleviate physical and mental stress, but if push comes to shove and you ARE evacuated, at least you wont be worried the whole time youre away, if your precious items (Windstones for you on this case) are in danger and destroyed.
Again, Im not there but I do know the feelings of wild fires living in FL. Put nervous energy to good use and yes, pick out your most important Windsies and pack them into the car so that you and the animals can bolt should you be given the order. If you get to stay with no evacuation, all the better. But Im one who likes to be overly prepared than caught off guard.
I know you know this, but obviously keep your news or ER radio turned on so you can hear the play by play. My thoughts are with you and good luck sweetness. I have friends in south CA (and other parts) and have gone through this with them too (tho not the Windstone part).
<3<3<3October 23, 2007 at 12:28 am #628605I would definitely pack some of them….especially the ones you absolutely do not want to lose. I’ve seen the fires on TV and it’s scary. 🙁
October 23, 2007 at 12:28 am #628606Better safe than sorry, as they say. I hope everything turns out ok!
October 23, 2007 at 12:34 am #628607well i cant see the fires but i can sure as hells smell them which is odd..but oh well i highly doubt they will coem to my area any time soon
October 23, 2007 at 12:42 am #628608Well, that’s scary. I hope you all make it through all right.
I guess it can happen here too. You hear of it affecting other areas more. Even though someone in the spring started a fire by throwing a cigarette out a car window. It took 6 hours to get the fire out. I think they were more concerned that it would spread out of the field.
October 23, 2007 at 1:08 am #628609I pray they get the fires under control for you and everyone in California. I saw some of it on the news earlier and I could not believe how big the fires are.
October 23, 2007 at 1:30 am #628610Thanks guys – I’m feeling for all the people involved in the hundreds of homes already consumed by these fires…it’s pretty rough over here! I’m very thankful that so far we’ve been in the clear, and I hope it stays that way…
I’ve spent the time since I posted about this putting some things together…I’ve got a bag packed for me, one for the dog, and one for the rabbits with lots of stuff to sustain all of us for a while…and I’ve got carriers ready to go.
I’ve rumaged through my hoard of windstone boxes, picking out those that go to the ones I like best and/or the ones that are most valuable…I guess all that’s left is to put some in boxes and stick them in the trunk! 🙁 Won’t be able to take many, though….and most of my collection consists of pieces I could probably never replace! >_< Doh!
*sigh* I’ve been telling my husband for months that we need to insure my collection… >_0
Here’s hoping we don’t have to evacuate!!

October 23, 2007 at 1:37 am #628612It sounds scary. I have a friend who lives in the University Heights, not far from Qualcomm Stadium – one of the largest evaucation points. She hasn’t been evacuated, but her work place out in Rancho Bernardo was evacuated earlier today. She’s mentioned that she can smell the smoke through the cracks of her air conditioner.
October 23, 2007 at 1:47 am #628613Whew! Well, the one that was right on top of us has been contained and should be cold by tomorrow…the others are far enough away that we don’t have to worry about them right now, and the winds are supposed to die down in the next couple of days. So far so good!
