Lately I’d been having pain in my wrist/hand from using my mouse, which is just a regular wireless mouse. I switched to this vertical mouse a few days ago, and it solved my problem! It looks like the larger size of this mouse and the different orientation naturally causes my hand to relax (instead of being unconsciously clenched on the mouse) and also prevents pressure from being put on my wrist. This vertical mouse is definitely the most comfortable mouse that I’ve ever used, and it has some great features too.
Since a lot of the forum members are on the computer quite a bit each day, I thought I’d mention this in case anyone else is having mouse related wrist/hand problems. For those who are interested: here’s another review on the vertical mouse that I mentioned, as well as reviews on other types of vertical mice currently available.
September 24, 2007 at 5:03 pm #619778Cool link! I personally use a trackball mouse, and my hand is oriented nearly vertically on it, and I only need to move my fingertips to move the cursor (not my wrist at all) It has helped my wrist so much! π

My art: featherdust.comSeptember 24, 2007 at 5:11 pm #619779I use the Logitec marble mouse. The mouse itself doesn’t move, just the roller ball that I move with my middle or index finger. I click with the thumb. It takes a bit of getting used to (especially with selecting text), but once you’ve mastered it, it’s great because it changes the dynamic on how you move your hand in general.
Here’s what it looks like:

That one looks like a good alternative also and it seems like the principle it uses for relieving stress on the hand/wrist is similar to the vertical mouse that I mentioned, if its used the way that Nam is using it.
September 24, 2007 at 6:23 pm #619781I didn’t know there was such a thing as vertical mouse! Learn something new every day…
September 24, 2007 at 8:06 pm #619782How neat, it almost seems like mousing with a joystick. Thanks for the info, Mimi! I’d like a vertical laser mouse though, so I’ll stick with my Logitech until they make one I like.
I would really like to try the vertical keyboard though….
September 24, 2007 at 8:10 pm #619783You’re welcome! By the way, what is a vertical laser mouse and how is it different from the vertical mice in the links?
That vertical keyboard is pretty wild. I don’t think I could type on that thing… π

Well, I didn’t notice any were laser when I looked, but I tend to miss details if I don’t slow down so there may be some. But most mice are either rollerball or LED. Laser is more accurate (and probably something else significant but geeky ).It’d take some getting used to for the keyboard, but I think it’d be fun. Though people who aren’t able to type without looking would be out of luck, and chicken-peckers would run into more difficulty. I’d have one of those Microsoft wave keyboards if they made gel wristbars for them….

I guess it took me a while to get my message out ’cause when I wrote it, Nam’s comment wasn’t there yet π

I’m not sure about the others in those reviews, but the vertical mouse that I highlighted previously is optical (not laser). However, the DPI is variable from 800 -2600, which apparently is as good as laser mice. So you might want to have another look at that vertical mouse if the DPI was your only reservation. πMaebnus3 wrote:It’d take some getting used to for the keyboard, but I think it’d be fun. Mos def! In the article it says that touch typists should adjust to it very easily. I’m a touch typist myself, but I think I’d still have trouble getting used to that thing. π

Is thisthe keyboard that you were referring to? That’s the one that I’m using right now. It doesn’t have gel wrist bars, but the wrist bar section is padded and pretty comfortable.
September 25, 2007 at 4:19 am #619788Thanks, Mimi, I’ll have to look into that vertical mouse a bit more. No new computer parts for me though before the move… ‘Cuz who knows, maybe I’ll finally have a life & won’t be chained to the computer so much. π

And yes, that’s the one. It has been a few years since I looked at them (due to lack of accessories at first), but that one looks much comfier than I remember. It used to be some lame plastic wrist “guard” that didn’t come up high enough to qualify.

Is such a thing possible? π

I know the ones you’re talking about. It looks like they’ve improved the keyboards quite a bit over the last few years. This one is definitely the most comfortable keyboard that I’ve ever used, and its got a lot of nice features too — I highly recommend it! By the way, here are the Amazon reviews on it.

That’s my keyboard too! Took me about a month to get used to the split design, but it helped me learn how to touch type properly. π Not to mention how much it helped my wrists.
