That’s right, people, I just (FINALLY) got my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. 😀 A few of you might remember me starting a thread about it a while back, hehe.
Anyways, the operation was FUN. I’m serious. Whatever that stuff was they injected me with is good stuff. I was knocked out pretty much completely… all I really remember is a “Wheeeee!” feeling and looking up to see a bunch of people leaning over me, sticking things in my mouth. Then I sort of blearily came back to full consciousness, and I was being wheeled over to the recovery room. Rolled off one bed and onto another, and then it was time to leave.
Now, though–MISERY. I’ve been taking painkillers, but it still hurts. *whimper* And all I can eat is pudding, tapioca, yogurt, and smashed up yams. I’ve never wanted a sandwich more in my life! The good thing is my face hasn’t swollen up yet. But man, I’m hungry…
September 11, 2007 at 7:17 pm #615482UGH! That’s something else I have to get done too… is my wisdom teeth taken out. I’m 26, and still haven’t had it done. It’s just one of several dental issues I have to deal with. But they’re not bothering me at all! I’m so afraid of the dentist. 🙁
I can imagine that would be painful. I Hope you feel better soon!
September 11, 2007 at 7:18 pm #615483You poor thing. I haven’t had mine out yet but I’m definitely not looking forward to it. Don’t forget the ice packs for the swelling.
September 11, 2007 at 7:21 pm #615484Doh! Much sympathy. Went the same way for me :X
I practically lived off Jamba juice for a week after mine were removed. Hope you make a fast recovery ^^
September 11, 2007 at 7:23 pm #615485Vanilla shakes are good too! I’m sorry you are in pain. Can they give you anything stronger?
Whatever you do don’t read any of James Herriot’s books right now. I hadn’t realized HOW MUCH he talks about food than when I read following my wisdom teeth extractions.
*sends mental soft food* hmmmm….nutella is soft….you could try that!
September 11, 2007 at 7:29 pm #615486Okay, this is gonna sound weird, but you can make a great set of icepacks out of maxipads. Take two maxis and soak them down with water, then put them in Ziplocs and set them in the freezer until they’re frozen. Take a tea towel (dish towel, thin fabric is better than terrycloth) and lay the maxis end-to-end along a long edge. Roll the towel up with the maxis inside. Then form the maxis so that they fit your jaw, and tie the towel up over the top of your head.
I did this when I had my wisdom teeth out. My sisters couldn’t stop giggling at me, but it let me ice my face without having to hold the ice packs in place, and it really cut down on the pain. The towel and the fact that the ice was caught up in the fabric of the maxis kept my skin from getting too cold. The biggest drawback is the apparatus makes you look like an early version of Bugs Bunny.
I hope this helps, and that you’re feeling better soon! 🙁
September 11, 2007 at 7:34 pm #615487Nutella! Mmm… You know, it’s funny, I never thought I’d get sick of eating sweet things, but now that I’ve been living off of nothing but yogurt and pudding for a day and a half, all I want is savory. Hahaha. I need some instant mashed potatoes.
Oh man, that would drive me nuts… another series of books that talks endlessly about food is Redwall. Gah, just the thought makes me hungry. I shall make a mental note to stay away from James Herriot.
Travistie, you know, as long as they aren’t bothering you I wouldn’t worry about it. At 26 they’re probably all grown in anyway, right? My mouth was just way too tiny to hold all those teeth, so they were coming out at a bad angle and smashing everything else together. I was looking forward to having them out because it was so uncomfortable, hehe.

I remember having all four of mine done at the same time, man I was hungry too!
September 11, 2007 at 7:41 pm #615489I had mine out a couple years ago. Pain wasn’t an issue, but then I get incredibly bad migranes, and realtively speaking it felt like nothing to me. The swelling on the other hand drove me mad! And then there was my family…they had steak and pizza the next two days! Torture!
Ice is your very best friend to start with, it keeps the swelling and pain down beautifully. Just remember after a day or two to start using hot water bottles in between hits of ice, otherwise your jaw is going to get horribly stiff and sore in a whole new way! Hope you feel better soon! *Sends some pudding, soup and ice cream*

Gah, I know! My family ate pasta in front of me last night, I was sad… eventually I ended up just grabbing a noodle (it was the short, swirly kind) and swallowing it whole. XD My dad gave me a funny look.
Ice seems to help a lot. I made a point of keeping a pack on my face periodically for most of yesterday, and I went to bed with one. Thanks for the advice on hot water bottles, though, I hadn’t thought of that!

What, you don’t like goop with chewy bits mixed in? Hahaha, I used to hate tapioca, too, but I guess I got over it…
By the way, people, Trader Joes’s Belgian Chocolate Pudding is the best thing on the planet. Highly recommended. I’ve officially done in an entire container of it since last night.
September 11, 2007 at 8:01 pm #615491Poor Chessie!!! 🙁 Have you tried swallowing soft cooked noodles? You don’t have to chew them very much….just a thought

Nope, they don’t bother me at all. My mother keeps insisting that I need to get them out… but what’s the point if they don’t hurt? I guess they’re all grown in. The main problem I’ve got right now is this one impacted tooth up front. Again, my mother is like “You gotta get that removed, or else you’ll develope a cyst”! Some dentist told her that when I was younger, but other dentists I’ve seen don’t agree. I guess I should get it taken out though… mainly because it looks stupid when I smile! 🙄 I’m just soooooo scared of the dentist. I just need to bite the bullet and get it over with already.

Yep! Hahaha… it’s surprisingly easy to swallow noodles whole, but you have to maintain concentration–I kept forgetting the circumstance and trying to chew. Ow.
And Dracomancer… Ow. Just ow. That sounds nasty.
