here are some new PYO’s I did this week….

a pewter dragon and pewter muse for dragonessjade

the dragon has interference green and hints of interference violet and blue….

the muse has interference green, violet and blue…..

I put 3 black crystals on it before I realized they don’t show up so well…but they are still there…hehe…

antiquing muses is really not fun…. 😯

the first unicorn I did is a brown/bay kind of color with golden red….with gold and red interference on the mane and tail…

the next unicorn I did was pure black with blue and violet interference on the mane and tail….with coarse interference on the hooves….

I agree all four of these are wonderful! I can’t wait until payday so I can order my next set of PYOs. I miss painting them. Oh and I can see at least two of the three black crystals on the muse.

They turned out great! I like seeing what others have done with the Muse. Mine arrives next week.

I’ve seen the Interference paints mentioned. I’ve read the tutorial and checked out the website. I’m still not quite sure what they are. Are they basically translucent paints that add a hint of color, but the base coat still shows through?

pretty much….unless the basecoat is black…then you pretty much get the full color…..

            like on the black one…..

I love the pewter PYOs, and the colored strands on the unicorns’ mane and tail are a good idea.

I like that pewter muse. And the tail and main on the black unicorn look wonderful! 😀

I love the pewter pair, esp the muse. Wish I could see them in person. I love the way you use the interference. I like the mane on the unis alot. You paint so neatly!! I really like how you used different colors in the mane, too. It looks very nice that way!

                Oh wow Frozen! NICE work!

LOVE the Black Uni and the Muse… GAH!

                They are great!!!

YAY, I can’t wait to hold them and cuddle them in person. Now I will have a Pewter wolf, muse, unicorn, and dragon painted by you. 😀
I really love the 2 unicorns as well.

Now all you need is a pewter griffin to have a complete set.

I love the black blaze down the face on your brown unicorn: it’s a unique marking and adds a lot of personality. I hadn’t seen the coarse interference used yet, but it looks really nice on the hooves of your black unicorn. These are lovely!

Interference paints are seriously cool! 😀 In a nutshell, they are a milky base with tiny fragments of metallic stuff in a given color: blue, green, gold, etc. They must be diluted way down before use . . . which is great, because the bottle lasts longer. Paint them over black, and the metallic color of the interference paint literally takes over. (The Old Peacock dragons were painted with interference paints.) Paint them over white, and you get a color shimmer effect that comes and goes as you turn the piece. You can paint them over other colors, too: the darkness of the base color seems to determine whether you get metallic color or color shimmer. The amount of base color showing through depends on how much you dilute the interference paint, and how many layers of interference you apply. And you can mix them in with like-colored paint too: this adds some sparkle to your base paint without covering it up.

If you have access to an art store that carries Golden paints, you can look at a tube or a bottle of their interference paint. Near the top of the label will be a short series of black and white bars, with a streak of paint over them. This is to show the different effect of the paint over black vs. white base coat.

Edit: Aack! Sorry, frozendragon–I didn’t mean to go on quite so much about paint. 🙁

she already has a silver painted griffin….so it’s kind of silly to do another one….but if she wants it…I’ll do it…LOL
