I finished two this week that had been in the works for a long time, and it feels so good I just have to babble about it everywhere. π
I fell in love with them the first time I saw one on the internet way back when I was in college, but it was years later before I actually got to fulfill the dream of making one of my own.
Nowadays I usually make them to use as avatars on my LiveJournal account. Since I talk about the weather and the seasons more than enough, I figured I could make some for the seasons, with characters from my writing.
Here’s autumn, that I finished a couple days ago.
I made one for spring as well, earlier this year.
Of course they’re not half as nice once I squash them down to 100×100 pixels and under 40k for LiveJournal requirements. π
I also enjoy making what I call ‘trailer-avatars.’ Came from watching too many movie trailers at the theatre–gave me the idea to make mini-trailers for my books.
So yesterday, nearly ten months after starting on it, I finally got my distractible self to finish the avatar for my first book.
I use all sorts of software with these, generally Poser, Vue 6 Esprit, PhotoShop Elements, and GIF Construction Set Professional. I’ve also made some from videos take with my digital camera. It has been fun learning and pushing myself in new directions! π

While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!

August 13, 2007 at 1:22 am #607509Those are cool. Making animated GIFs is hard. My icon community allowed animated icons for the first time ever this week and I had fun torturing myself making some. I had a hard time finding animated tutorials for Photoshop and Image Ready though.
August 13, 2007 at 1:31 am #607510Pegs> I make my icons in Photoshop and ImageReady. This page is a little collection of all the sprites I did last summer:
http://kiwiberry.critter.net/bitmaps (the links on the side don’t work, this is a new page for my new website.)I mostly used the following tutorial on DeviantArt. I hope it helps! If it doesn’t, you can also PM me if you really want to learn. π
August 13, 2007 at 1:43 am #607511Thanks rockerbot. Pixel animation is cool, but not what I was wanting right now. There’s a community on livejournal that supposedly had tutorial for PS and IR, but 2/3 of them don’t exsist or are locked so you can’t see them. Annoys me. I was able to adapt some JASC Animation Studio (?) tutorials. I can’t really say much about the icons I did make because the contest hasn’t ended yet.
August 13, 2007 at 2:23 am #607512Thanks, you guys! π
Those are cute, rockerbot! I especially like the blue fellow blowing his bangs up, and the frustrated writer one–that motion must’ve been hard to make smooth. π
August 13, 2007 at 2:44 am #607513Those are neat! Being a bit of newbie here, it’s interesting to see what others do outside of their Windstone obsessions. π

I agree! Some people around here are amazingly creative and talented! π
August 13, 2007 at 8:35 pm #607515Wow, those are cool. I like the moving ones, but I haven’t got the foggiest clue on how to make them.
August 14, 2007 at 4:02 am #607516Wow! These are great! I really like autumnn… it begs to be part of a story!
Rockerbot’s are good, too!
Cool guys! -
