Whilst in Tennessee, my brother’s in-law family had three Emus they were trying very hard to catch and put into a trailer without much success. Do you have any tips to safely catch/transport these big goofy birds?

~SafyreAre they tame or wild? They sound wild. Wild ones take nets and a big group of agile humans to catch and subdue even in a pen. I’ve never caught a wild one!
Tame ones are easy. Well, easier. Wear long pants ’cause they may kick. Hug them around their necks with your arms, to hold them, then get a person on each side to grab a wing handle. It is good to have a third person in back to lift and push. Push, steer and lift as necessary. It takes two or three strong people if the emu is full grown.
We used to just carry ours around, as long as we could lift her.

No, not “wild”, I meant not used to people. Ones that were not raised in a play pen in the living room.

Hm… I think they’ll have to get a large group; there were only two unexperienced guys attempting to catch three emus who were definitely not tame. I guess they’ll have to be inventive and determined. I just hope no one gets hurt. They go pretty crazy when disturbed.

Thanks for the advice Melody 🙂

If you have like a round pend or something trying running them in there first so you are all over the place… Emu’s also like shinny objects…
