So I have a question…I’m not sure if anyone will be able to help me, I’ve been going through some of the boxes in my basement and I found a peacock hatching emperor which i must have gotten a few years back….I can’t recall how or where i got him, my boyfriend thinks that i got him off ebay and just forgot about it, when i saw his head I was bombarded with excitement but as I pulled him of the box I noticed that the egg had quite a few stains on it 😕 and I am not sure what they are…they look like smoke but I am not 100% positive that’s what it is, so I am wonderng if anyone ever had that and how I can clean it up???????? It’s a real shame becasue he’s so beautiful.

Smoke removal has been discussed before, but I can’t remember what the advice was, unfortauntely. Still, I wanted to congratulate you on finding a hatching emp. I wish that kind of stuff would happen to me. 😆

If you can post photos, it would help. My Pea Hatching Emperor that I sold here had what I called “factory marks,” because there was no removing them. And I recently saw another of the same exact piece in a store (no they are selling it), and it had some of the same marks on it that I thought were possible scratches. It might be that the piece just always had it. When I saw the one in the store, I was floored that it had the same markings that mine did (looked like someone touched a finger nail to it while wet). Mine and their marks matched right up.

Pix would help if you can capture them.

If it’s a nicotine stain you can try a commercial cleaner (like 409) so that you’re not scouring it or using a lot of water. If it is a smoke stain, it’ll probably still smell. If it’s the varnish that has discolored, then you’re in for a tougher time, as you don’t want to risk the paint coming off. I’d start w/the 409 (gentle spray, dry wipe), as I’ve used it safely on one of mine.

Ah, but if you want that to happen to you, first you have to lose it, and that’s no fun.

Well, I’ve heard of 409 but I’ve never seen it. I don’t think it’s available in Canada. But here is the website:

                  Home

Has anyone used it on a Windstone? I would be very carefull using it on a painted cast stone item. It’s okay for painted wood but, I didn’t see anything there for stone.

I have used Windex but that was only for dust not marks. We have 409 here in CA but I do not think it can be shipped w/o a HUGE fee since it’s cleaning chemicals

Do a search for “Cleaning Windstones” under the General Windstones topic and several will turn up. I remember Febreez was mentioned… I know the smoke smell dissapates over time, but I am not sure about stains.
